Len Kasper from Cubs TV booth to White Sox radio booth

The Sun-Times reports play-by-play announcer Len Kasper is leaving the Cubs television booth at Marquee Sports Network for the White Sox radio booth on WMVP (1000) to work with analyst Darrin Jackson. Kasper replaces Andy Masur, who held the post one year after the death of Ed Farmer.

Kasper, in the Cubs booth 16 years, is to be replaced by Chris Myers of Fox Sports. Myers' baseball play-by-play resume consists of a few regional games on Fox in 2012 and 2013. Jim Deshaies remains as the Cubs TV analyst.

There was talk Masur would be replaced as the Six left WGN (720), but Kasper's name didn't come up. It's not quite on a scale of Harry Carey moving from the Sox to the Cubs in 1982, but it's still a surprise.

That is a surprise.
According to what I read in The Athletic, Kasper wanted to do radio instead of TV, as well as call a world series before he retires (he turns 50 this month). That would be a problematic scenario for him as lomg as Pat Hughes remains as the Cubs lead radio voice. Supposedly he's leaving the Cubs and Marquee on amicable terms, although the Athletic article said he may bave felt awkward with having a three-man booth of occasion for the Marquee TV broadcasts this past season.

I got a chance to meet and spend a few minutes with Len at a local event a couple of years ago. Very easy to talk to, and he takes his work very seriously. He's axs knowledgeable about broadcasting....and his fellow PBP voices.....as he is about baseball.

As for Chris Meyers as the new Cubs TV PBP guy. He's got some big shoes to fill, but he's a solid pro, and should grow into the job. I thought he was a pretty good pick. I'm wondering, however, how and/or if the Cubs job will interferw with his NFL gig on Fox.

Thanks for the info.

The GM of the Marquee network has said the reports of Chris Meyers replacing Len Kasper are "not accurate". This was on a live interview on WSCR that I heard. He stopped short of ruling out Meyers, however.
