They preempted that for this?

Back on the pre-emption track, WSB in Atlanta has bypassed tonight's Goldbergs and American Housewife reruns for a Covid 19 Vaccine News Special.
Atlanta viewers missed out on seeing Julia Butters on ABC again...it was the Christmas episode from last year. (She left American Housewife this season and was replaced by Giselle Eisenberg).

Sister station WSOC aired the shows as scheduled.

Happens all the time. Lots of competition for syndicated shows in large markets. The assumption is viewers will record it and watch it the next day.
Yeah they can always DVR but this is one of the top syndie shows, this isn’t The Doctors. Thought it would’ve got a higher priority. Oh well.

What’s the market history with the show? Maybe it performed poorly. Maybe there’s just not enough room. Maybe his schlock doesn’t resonate there. There’s always something that doesn’t clear or clears in a wee hours slot while getting what looks on paper to be a better slot in another market.

KHQ is channel 6 (not 2 which is KREM CBS)

KHQ has carried Zags games for years so its not like this is something new. They had 4 non conference games in December cancelled due to COVID. KHQ has weeknight games on 1/7, 1/28 and 2/11 this season.

The 1/7 game was cancelled, so KHQ's regular programming returns that night. The Zags site also says KHQ has a game on Saturday at 5:00, but that would conflict with the Wild Card game, which is still listed on Zap2It and KHQ's site.

Actually the 1/7 opponent changed. It’s now BYU at 5:30 local time on espn.
The Saturday game is now on Fox 28 (KAYU)

It's not just DC, every nearly every station across the country has either been carrying network or their own coverage of the goings on since around 2:15pm Eastern including PBS.

Correct. All of the networks are providing long form coverage, pre-empting local news coverage: ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, and even PBS.

As of 3:10 pm pacific , all of the big three are still with wall to wall. If memory serves this is the longest wall to wall since 9/11.
If you now call it the "Big Five" (the Fox affiliate-based web is not really a news provider) of CBS, NBC, ABC, Telemundo and Univision, there are all five in continuous coverage now. By the way, Univision news often beats one or more of the "Big Three" of years gone by.

Got it. I wasn't deliberately leaving them out.

Last night, ABC aired live coverage of the Georgia election right after The Lion King (2019) finished on the East Coast at 10:30 PM Eastern, replacing a scheduled rerun of The Goldbergs. Some, not all, West Coast markets aired the coverage live at 7:30 Pacific. KABC ran a crawl at the end of Jeopardy! announcing that the coverage would replace Wheel of Fortune, and Tuesday's episode would replace the rerun on Saturday.
