So I guess 97.3 in Manchester is now a Classic Hits station a translator to 102.1 WWPW? I am in Dublin BTW and just wondering. I know Macon has 102.1 WWWD a Translator of WVFJ 93.3 The Joy FM. I lived in Manchester and I remember 94.5 being Mountain Country then changed to 97.3 and 94.5 became Streetz 94.5 I don't know why but they did and there is already several stations in North Georgia named Streetz 94.5. Seems like I was in Warner Robins not long ago and got a signal on 94.5 but it was just a dead signal no audio it was early morning possibly 94.5 from Manchester but I doubt it. Also I remember sitting at Southlake Mall parting lot and getting WBYZ 94.5 out of Baxley. That was years ago when Baxley was the only 94.5 and it was coming in clear. They simulcast with FM translators in Griffin and Manchester, which they sell in combo with 92.5 The Bear. Then they have translators in Macon and Warner Robins with the exact same programming that they sell to advertisers in that area. So Atlanta is just an addition, and they've been happy with how they're doing on the other signals.
Well, kind of. 97.3 in Manchester simulcasts with the 102.1 translator in Atlanta, but 97.3's parent station is WFDR-AM in Manchester. So I guess 97.3 in Manchester is now a Classic Hits station a translator to 102.1 WWPW? Absolutely not. Murray appears to be happy with getting Fox in Atlanta...My friend Chris East who works at their sister station WEKS, said basically that Fox is here to stay. Kevin Steele is PD and does mornings. Even though it's a translator, I think they can make it work. As far as automation, they were using Arrakis, but switched to Enco in March or April if I remember correctly. Enco gave them so many issues, they are already are in the process of moving to PlayoutONE along with WEKS and Murray's Macon cluster.Good signal into Spaghetti Junction area.
Jingles sound good. Processing sounds good.
Automation sounds good.
Why would anybody listen to this station in...Atlanta Georgia?
I predict they'll flip to Hip Hop / Urban in 6 months.
Yes.They do multiple feeds? Macon/Warner Robins spots don't air on 102.1. Newnan spots do.
"FoxFM / Georgia's Greatest Hits" airs on 97.3, 102.1, 104.9, 94.7 & 95.5.
I know for a fact there pumping out as much power as allowed by the FCC. I think they are licensed 250watts. Unfortunately, if they are 250, that's as much as the FCC allows translators. I know they really wanted to get there hands on WFDR-FM 94.5 for Fox, but that didn't work out. 102.1 was the best they could get for a jam packed market like Atlanta, in fact they are lucky they even got 102.1 knowing how packed the ATL dial is.I hope at some point they boost the 102.1 signal. It goes no further than Stone Mountain and gets wiped out by WGMG in Athens once you pass the mountain going east on US78.
Regarding their processing, I think they use an Omnia 6. Knowing the way they run The Bear's processing, (Bear uses an Optimod 8400) I'm guessing 102.1 is very loud, aggressive an slightly overprocessed. For a translator, I'd say it's necessary to run it that way. Keeping the modulation consistant (especially on a translator) is a good way to try and fight off unwanted interference from other stations.Good signal into Spaghetti Junction area.

I wouldn't describe 102.1's processing as "very loud, aggressive and slightly over processed." To me they sound very clean and not aggressive and over processed at all.Regarding their processing, I think they use an Omnia 6. Adult Hits gets big ratings in a number of markets. And owners like it because they can avoid jock salaries. When Star 94 did its perceptual, Adult Hits was one of the formats tested. Rhythmic AC tested best, to the disappointment of former Entercom head of programming Pat Paxton. Based on the ratings, however, I'm not sure the Rhythmic AC format is sustainable long term.102.1 is quite directional; plenty of azimuths get nowhere near the full 250.
The fact classic hits or adult hits remains unavailable on one of the full power FMs locally continues to annoy me.
A properly programmed Adult Hits brand would work beautifully in Atlanta. The format earns great numbers in Charlotte, Greensboro, Nashville, Houston, St. Louis, Dallas and a host of other warm region markets.
Ah. I've never heard 102.1 before so I don't know how they sound. I'm just going off what I was told. Anybody know how the Bear sounds? I've heard WESC can also really be a pest even on the Southside at times, where The Bear is based.I wouldn't describe 102.1's processing as "very loud, aggressive and slightly over processed."
