Well aware, I've lived in the part of Indiana not covered by WOWO's night signal.Kokomo is in WOWO's nighttime signal null.
WOWO's nighttime null towards KEX, Portland, seems to me to be excessively deep. Perhaps there is an additional reason for such a deep null.Well aware, I've lived in the part of Indiana not covered by WOWO's night signal.
Unfortunately, the details and exhibits for the applications for 9.8 kW Night and 15 kW Night are not in the database. If anyone knows anyone in engineering at WOWO, they might be able to copy it for us without hundreds of dollars in copying fees.WOWO's nighttime null towards KEX, Portland, seems to me to be excessively deep. As I recall, WOWO was downgraded because they were purchased by the then owners of WLIB in New York, also on 1190 kHz. Or, am I mistaken on this story?Too bad they didn't approve this 15 kW Night APP. It would have restored quite a bit of de facto skywave service. I'm not certain, but it may have had to do with interference with new Class Bs squeezed in because of the downgrade from Class A.
Inner City Broadcasting which owned WLIB bought WOWO just to downgrade it to class B so that WLIB could operate at night. As I recall, WOWO was downgraded because they were purchased by the then owners of WLIB in New York, also on 1190 kHz. Or, am I mistaken on this story?
I wonder, if they filed the appropriate paperwork, can WOWO go back to 50,000 watts at night if they wanted to?Inner City Broadcasting which owned WLIB bought WOWO just to downgrade it to class B so that WLIB could operate at night.
I think it might be allowed under some newer proposed AM rules. Looks to me like they wouldn't presently be able to meaningfully upgrade without some rule relaxation because of restrictions toward WMUZ 1200 Taylor, MI. That's right toward Ft. Wayne. Although they relaxed the Night coverage requirement, which might allow further power increase, what's the point if it doesn't more solidly cover the Ft. Wayne Area?I wonder, if they filed the appropriate paperwork, can WOWO go back to 50,000 watts at night if they wanted to?
What Station is that, that's near WOWO?Too bad they didn't approve this 15 kW Night APP. It would have restored quite a bit of de facto skywave service. I'm not certain, but it may have had to do with interference with new Class Bs squeezed in because of the downgrade from Class A.
Under proposed rules, I don't think WOWO would have to protect WMUZ (WCHB) 1200 on the first adjacent channel, but I don't think those are in place yet. I know of another owner who has been marking time waiting for the new rules to kick in. Several years ago, WRTO Chicago applied for an increase also, and in their Night interference study, it showed that WOWO at 9.8 kW was right up against the post to WMUZ (WCHB). The WOWO TL is SW of Ft. Wayne, and thus Ft. Wayne is NE of the TL, and so is WMUZ (WCHB).I think it might be allowed under some newer proposed AM rules. Likely not, there are stations that came on since then, and the purpose of the power reduction was to allow WLIB, New York, night service. There's no need, really. WOWO serves Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana, and has a translator.I wonder, if they filed the appropriate paperwork, can WOWO go back to 50,000 watts at night if they wanted to?
I heard snippets of music but conditions in my location weren't very good, mostly I'd hear WBAP fading up and out. No Spanish whatsoever.Just logged KWDP-820 Waldport OR, running Standards, 15 watts 247 mi. Mixed w/ WBAP and someone else...it sounds like XEABCA faded down for a bit. I now hear them in the jumble. Not hearing CHAM ON.
WBAP, ~1,000 miles away, is reasonably easy for me to pull in the past few days, but I can’t seem to get XEABCA which is only ~200 miles away at all.
