At my check last night the KROI audio processing was quite nice, with a more detailed, spacious quality. I would guess it’s the new tower. I also noted the song/artist info. Was driving along I-10 from Fry Rd into the Heights, and KROI sounded great and locked in HD throughout the ride. It's got to be the new tower.
I've never had issues with their RDS other than it not updating frequently due to poor signal in Spring. As opposed to the clunky/broken RDS that KROI was running last summer,
KBXX HD-2 is supposed to be the origination for La Caliente 104.5. Although the subchannel had been dead air recently, the audio was there when checked earlier this week.97.9 does technically have a subchannel but it’s dead air.
The RDS was stalled on an ad for “LAWBOSS” for a long time last year. I’m a bit closer to the tower here in Montrose.I've never had issues with their RDS other than it not updating frequently due to poor signal in Spring.
Why do they have to add original programming? The station already performs poorly. Adding original programming to a subchannel will do more harm than good. What could KROI add to HD2? La Mera Mera again? Or another Mega/LATINOMIX format?
That assumes that the folks operating translators illegally have money to pay to get on a legal HD2, 3 or 4. I’m not convinced that KROI’s owner wants checks that bounce. Why do they have to add original programming? The station already performs poorly. Offering space to the translators around town seems like the obvious choice. If I'm UrbanOne, I would snitch (via proxy of course) on translators that don't have parent stations and then offer them space on KROI. Sure, this is morally f***ed. But revenue is revenue. Fire up HD-2-3-4 and get at it. Make everyone in town legal and gain revenue. Everyone wins.
The moment the checks bounce, boot them out and become a persistent "snitch" to the FCC. Force the translators to do business with you or not do business at all. It's a weasel way of doing business, but revenue is revenue. This isn't the 90s anymore where stations can be picky about how or where the revenue is coming from. That assumes that the folks operating translators illegally have money to pay to get on a legal HD2, 3 or 4. I have noticed the same. I would even say that it is performing almost as good as KLGK around Conroe/Willis.Would assume they are on the new tower now, signal does indeed seem better from my location in south Montgomery County, too.
HD is very weak up here, though... couldn't pick up an HD carrier this morning until I hit I-45 South at SH-99.
