Although certainly these mass shootings in Atlanta and Colorado probably help short term.
Very impressive that two AM stations continue to be in the top 10 for listeners aged 6 and up. WBZ tied for first place and WRKO maintains its impressive 8th place finish. Jeff in the morning and Howie in the afternoon continue to perform extremely well. Moving Jeff to morning drive continues to pay off. IHeart Media has 4 of the top 10 radio stations in Boston. It is great to see two heritage AM stations continue their winning ways with great programming and on air talent!

Spoiler alert: Between 5 squared and the New York disco Studio BLANK, WBZ-AM would be the first item which David Letterman would read in his lists. WRKO is not to be found on said list.

Yeah, I didn't get it either. Perhaps the poster was implying that Boston is only like 1/10th of a market compared to New York, so while WBZ (AM) remains high and mighty, maybe the poster is suggesting that WRKO is somehow irrelevant to this discussion.
And I will reiterate, as other posters have, generally speaking iHeartMedia, either love them or hate them, does know how to get results from most of their stations.
This probably goes without saying, but they will also turn 97.7 back nto a viable and profitable format again eventually. Maybe they are simply waiting for the next big thing, whatever that might be?
I mean heck, maybe it will be Kpop or something? Who really knows? Also, sometimes things that are old become new again.

Krazy K0000nah has been on morning drive for years now, and its only been the past... what, 6 months or so that WKRO has been above the 2.3-3.2 range it traditionally was for years., according to these same monthly ratings posted here.
We're expected to believe this new-found listenership for WRKO has recently 'discovered' Jeff after all these years? Unlikely. Far more likely it has to do with other factors driving people to listen to radio in general.
Pardon me now while I go listen to "male enhancement" commercials on RKO now.

I read within this past week in Radio-Ink that one way to win at the ratings game, is to strategically place certain content at very specific times to optimize AQH.
The article talked about slitting a 5 minute stop between 13-18 after the hour for example., so as to maximize the listening during most of he 2 AQH's.
Could it be that this is one of the winning tactics that iHeartRadio might be doing?

Nearly every big radio group with music stations in PPM markets is putting two stopsets in each hour, centered on :00 and :30 or :15 and :45.
This is a case of not seeing the forest because of the trees. Minute by minute obsessions came out of looking at data back in 2009 that we had never had before. However, creating those huge stopsets may win you credit for an extra quarter hour but it does not help to compete with streaming and other services with fewer commercials.
The same thing has happened with the injection of the PPM data... stations are pushing the insertions to very high rates and it is affecting the long-term listenability of the audio.
Few are programming for the hour, the day, the week. It is all about minutes and quarter hours. Very good quarter hour capturing, but very bad radio stations overall.

I don’t understand the obsession with Jeff. You repeat the same message over and over. You are fixated with Jeff.
This thread is about Boston radio ratings. Jeff is very successful and with Howie is keeping WRKO the 8th more listened to station ages 6 and up.
He is live and local. Perfect!
