Here a from radio insight FCC Report 4/11: The Final 9/11 Displacement Seeks To Make Its Move Permanent - RadioInsight
Spoiler: It doesn't... WPAT-FM has applied to make its 20 year STA on the Empire State Building permanent.Where does the article state that WPAT-FM will return to the World Trade Center?
I’m sorry. I did wrong read your articleSpoiler: It doesn't... WPAT-FM has applied to make its 20 year STA on the Empire State Building permanent.
Anecdotally, not much that I have noticed. Maybe it takes a hit around the edges (particularly in areas closer to co-channels and first adjacents), but certainly no noticeable degradation to my ear in the city and metro area.I haven't been to New York metro in a number of years. Out of curiosity, is there a substantial signal difference between 93.1's STA at 4.8 kW and the ESB signals at the same height with 6 kW (92.3, 100.3, 101.9, etc)?
(Just to be clear, I know what the difference looks like on a contour map, but in real world listening, is it significant?)
Even from other ESB stations operating at less than 6KW, you do see degraded signal closer in than the full power stations. The lower power also takes a hit on the HD channels.Anecdotally, not much that I have noticed. It is similar to WBLS. I don’t notice much of a difference between WBLS and the “full” Class B facilities. There may be some degradation out on the fringes, but I would not call it an inferior facility like WQXR, which at 610 watts, has a noticeably inferior signal.Even from other ESB stations operating at less than 6KW, you do see degraded signal closer in than the full power stations. I know that One World Trade Center has an antenna, but does any of the others have one?It has just come to my attention that there are six NYC buildings that are higher than Empire! The reason I didn't know about them is because they were all built after the replacement for the World Trade Center. That makes five more solid options to move off of ESB! Has anyone considered any of these buildings?
Exactly one dB.Out of curiosity, is there a substantial signal difference between 93.1's STA at 4.8 kW and the ESB signals at the same height with 6 kW (92.3, 100.3, 101.9, etc)?
That's a good question. I'm just surprised that no one has ever mentioned these other buildings!I know that One World Trade Center has an antenna, but does any of the others have one?

I would assume 1 Vanderbilt must cause multipath issues with the ESB signals. That's a good question. I'm just surprised that no one has ever mentioned these other buildings!
Thank you, that might explain it. Nevertheless, there are new taller buildings going up all the time so it might just be a matter of time before someone wants a share of that income although I have to admit, whatever the amount is, it has to pale next to a hundred million dollar penthouse! The other new buildings are "supertall" towers that are entirely residential. Their floorplates are very small, and they're designed to have ultra-luxury $100 million penthouses at the top, not broadcast rental.
