You are NOT going to believe this.

"Put Your Head on My Shoulder" Paul Anka
"Spanish Flea" Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass
"When I'm Sixty-Four" Beatles
"Fool on the Hill" and "Mas Que Nada" Brasil 66
"When I Fall in Love" Nat King Cole
"Send in the Clowns" Judy Collins
"Cupid" Sam Cooke
"'S Wonderful" Ella Fitzgerald
"Wave" Antonio Carlos Jobim
"A Certain Smile" Johnny Mathis
"Heartaches by the Number" Guy Mitchell
"Cape Cod" Patti Page
"I Get a Kick Out of You" Frank Sinatra

I also heard "Sunrise Serenade" which has versions by Frankie Carle and Glenn Miller and don't know how to tell which is which.

There was an instrumental I had decided was "Wave" but when I heard "Wave" for real I realized that's what that was.

I heard a song which sounded like it was by Sammy Davis Jr., but when I looked at a list of his song I didn't see a title that looked like the lyrics I heard.

"That Old Devil Moon" was performed by a woman.

Also a song by a woman but there was so much power line interference I couldn't hear lyrics and wasn't familiar with the tune.

There were a couple of others I can't remember anything about now. And power line interference is worse now than when I started doing this. Maybe when the weather wasn't cold or hot there was less to cause interference. Air conditioning in the car might be worse than heat.

'S Wonderful was recorded by Ray Conniff & Singers 'bout 1957 or so.
I've heard it on WERT.

One more thing. The recorded voice doing the station ID's (which don't include call letters any more except at the top of the hour) said less talk means more music. "Great music. Like this." And then a man started talking. It was "Health 411".

A "station ID" is only the place where the calls and city of license are mentioned. The rest of a station's imaging may or may not include the call letters, but unless they are in the singly hourly mention done exclusively to comply with the FCC, they are not station IDs.

I hope they keep the Adult Standards format going. XM radio doesn't have anything like this.

they wont, why would they? look up the new owners.. Truth Broadcasting Corp.

I know what the new format is... Just don't know when. Not sure I'm at liberty to say. Safe to say it won't be what you're hearing now.

And even if they don't there must be a way to stream so you don't have to be local. This is better than anything I've found online so far.

there's no IF, they wont keep the format. Thats not what the new owners do

Not quite like WHVN but when they aren't doing talk point your browser to WEBRradio.com The mix is a little different but still nice. See what you think. It's a small operation owned by a Taxi cab company in Buffalo (Licensed to Niagara Falls, NY).

I've been listening to WERT but I'll try it sometime.

WEBR is "A Little Different"? The second song was "Never Surrender" by Corey Hart. There's no logic to that.

WERT plays stuff like that every now and then but it's not frequent.

Okay, three out of four songs were good, so I'll keep trying. There isn't information about what is being played but there is a DJ.

It's actually more like America's Best Music than WHVN. WERT is better.

"Africa" by Toto? This is getting more like WMIN except WMIN has more standards. I really don't understand the logic people are using to select songs for standards stations any more.

There is no logic. You play some standards, even more than America's Best Music, and apparently anything goes. "Harden My Heart" by Quarterflash was the last straw.

Like the Energizer Bunny ...

Association "Cherish"
Nat King Cole "When I Fall in Love"
Ray Conniff "Invisible Tears"
Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly "True Love"
Doris Day "Que Sera Sera"
Neil Diamond "Holly Holy"
Jimmy Dorsey "So Rare"
Vince Guaraldi "Cast Your Fate to the Wind"
Bert Kaempfert "Wonderland by Night"
Julie London "Cry Me a River"
Steve Lawrence "Go Away Little Girl"
Gilbert O'Sullivan "Alone Again"
Elvis Presley "Are You Lonesome Tonight?"
Linda Ronstadt "My Funny Valentine"
Kenny Rogers "Through the Years"
Jo Stafford "Jambalaya"
Bobby Vinton "There! I've Said It Again"

YouTube is very helpful when you know lyrics and there are no DJs and no stream. A few of these I'm not absolutely certain of.

"Opus One" was performed by a big band but of course I don't know which one.

I thought surely I'd know the one with the harpsichord and nonsense vocals. It was too slow to be "Delicado", which is the only other song I know of with harpsichord.

Oh, yeah, one more thing. Older people are at risk of falling. Here's what you should do.

Still going!

Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass "Mame"
Paul Anka "Times of Your Life"
Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald "Tenderly"
Bobby Darin "Beyond the Sea"
Doris Day "Everybody Loves a Lover" and "Sentimental Journey"
Fleetwoods "Mr. Blue"
Engelbert Humperdinck "Winter World of Love"
Peggy Lee "Is That All There Is"
Frank Sinatra "The Way You Look Tonight"
Bobby Vinton "Roses Are Red"

I think I also heard the last few notes of "Misty". Since it ended with a piano, it was probably Erroll Garner instead of Johnny Mathis.

A man sang what may be "This Can't Be love", and a man sang "If I Loved You". Both sounded like old recordings. There was also something I assumed was "Blue Moon" but with all the power line interference I couldn't make out lyrics. It was a man and those lyrics might actually have been nothing more than "Ooooo ooooo ooooo".

It's a shorter list because I spent less time in the car than usual. And two weeks ago I went all the way to Charlotte, where naturally the signal would be better and I would be within range longer.

Yep new owners seem to be in no hurry to take it over. The chief operator has been told to just keep it running until he hears otherwise. After that GHB still has one station left which is under an LMA 106.1 FM. That one will eventually be sold.

What I'm curious about is that we were told for years that they have to pay for music royalties and that's what the fund-raisers are for. Unless people are just going ahead and sending in money, I don't see how they can keep playing music.

I'm surprised the Spanish-speaking broadcaster hasn't bought 106.1 already.

EVen talk stations pay music licensing, for bumpers and stuff they play....... its just less. Whatever theyre paying for music licensing on 1240 is a drop in the bucket to them.
