The Christmas Breeze

Penguin logo and all on the Breeze website. “Philly’s Christmas Breeze” is an interesting slogan, doesn’t land with me, but hey, if it resonates with the target audience more power to ‘em.

My question: will they throw any meaningful marketing investment after this? A good targeted digital spend?

Edit: song number four was Last Christmas by the Glee cast. So…um…yeah…I guess B101 has company. Always had a crush on Faith Hill so glad to see her among the first songs.

I suspect b101 will switch to Christmas music sometime Next week.
I'm kind of surprised that B101 hasn't pulled the trigger already to make sure the Breeze doesn't steal any of their Christmas thunder.

EDIT: B101 posted on their FB at Noon a tease that Christmas is "loading." Haven't made the flip yet though

Just a reminder that today is the first day of the December ratings book. So stations that flip today will get the benefit of a full month of Christmas ratings before the start of the less-important Holiday book. I don't think anyone should be surprised by these flips today. I'm sure there are a lot of them around the country. I expect The Breeze will utilize the centralized iHeart holiday playlist that's available to them.

funny they are stlll running christmas music on their hd2 instead of the usual placing the regular format on the 2. I do think in the last few years they did not put christmas music on the 2 at all or maybe for a day.

I won’t go to great effort to tune in, but “I’m taking it off my presets!” seems a bit of an overreaction?
Especially for someone who, most likely, is not in a Nielsen household. Fine, you don't like the music, then don't listen to the station until Dec. 26. It's not like you'd be encouraging the programming tradition to continue if you were to accidentally listen to a few seconds of it after pushing the wrong button. In fact, that sort of momentary listening wouldn't even matter if you WERE carrying a PPM.

I wish I could see the libraries of WJBR and WBEB and compare their selections to what the Breeze is playing. I suspect the Breeze is going for the lightest Christmas tunes, and likely leaving out what B101 is playing right now "Carol of the Bells" by Trans-Siberian Orchestra with Metallica. Other those sort of outliers, I guess there's gonna be quite a lot of overlap between all three xmas stations, but there's only so much christmas music made - besides going into the alternative/indie christmas which WXPN does on HD2.

Comparing the recently-played lists, The Breeze is playing the same songs other iHeart Christmas stations are playing, in basically the same order. I compared 106.1 with WLIT in Chicago, and they were the same. There may be several choices of Christmas playlists available to stations.

This is the first year 106.1 The Breeze has played Christmas music. In the past, they never played a single Christmas song, even on Christmas itself.

Not true. When The Breeze first launched, they flipped to all-Christmas early in the season, but then flipped back to their normal playlist once B-101 flipped.

They weren’t the Breeze per se then. They were “Philly’s real Christmas” something-or-other. The Breeze moniker came after that stunt (and an awful one at that).
