AllAccess reports that Audacy's Alt 103.7 (KVIL) in Dallas has dropped their morning and afternoon personalities, "as the station heads in a more music intensive direction."
That might make sense except the music is in fact the problem.

And of course, Audacy dropping personalities on KVIL follows Audacy's flip of KITS in San Francisco from Alt to adult hits, one month ago.
There isn't really any obvious holes in DFW. There are some rimshots with mediocre to bad signals that do pretty well in the ratings that you could try to "cover" with the much better signal, such KRNB.My point is that Audacy may be moving away from the Alt format. I don't know whether there are any format holes in Dallas.
They have an ailing all-news* AM station that could use some sprucing and re-investment as an FM.
All that would do is kill whatever revenue they're getting from KVIL. There would be no real revenue replacement.
And all news has a very poor performance history in the Sunbelt. All that would do is kill whatever revenue they're getting from KVIL. There would be no real revenue replacement.
They not oversee Alt 92.3.
And here I wanted to talk about FM 101.9 in Orlando. 😆Well yes, the subject heading is Alt 92.3, and this thread is on the New York board, but the discussion seems to have drifted to KVIL in DFW which is what I was responding to.
It makes perfect sense to dismantle it slowly. They could first see if the station (with it's lower numbers) with fewer on air talent to pay is affordable and then decide if it's worth keeping.I think this could be a significant sign that Alt's days are numbered, but....
If a change was imminent, wouldn't they just keep these syndicated shows until the actual spin of the big format wheel?
Why dismantle the station slowly in pieces?
A few non-marquee talent is not going to make or break a budget of a Class C station in market 5. The talent in question at KVIL were syndicated from the same owner's stations in other markets, likely not at great expense. It makes perfect sense to dismantle it slowly. Awesome i hate "djs"....just shutup & play the hits.AllAccess reports that Audacy's Alt 103.7 (KVIL) in Dallas has dropped their morning and afternoon personalities, "as the station heads in a more music intensive direction."
Is such a move often a prelude to a format flip? Maybe another indication that the Alt format is not doing so well?
KVIL Dallas
Awesome i hate "djs"....just shutup & play the hits.
+ the stations save $$.
Now we need some NY stations to do this too.
Well, then I'm sure a format change will happen there soon.A few non-marquee talent is not going to make or break a budget of a Class C station in market 5. The talent in question at KVIL were syndicated from the same owner's stations in other markets, likely not at great expense.
Either the format generates enough revenue and profit to justify its existence or not. If not, and the station is unlikely to improve its position in the future a format change will occur.
Tell us how you really feel.Awesome i hate "djs"....just shutup & play the hits.

What exactly better music selection are noticing compared to 'before'?I have noticed a much better music selection on 92.3 no more 2 minute promise such a scam that was.
