I have a feeling that the antenna they use these days is not favorable towards North America.

re Arctic SDRs, in previous years he had two SDRs online, one aimed at Asia/Pacific and one aimed at the Americas (and Africa/ME on the back end). This year, neither SDR has been very good, with lots of RFI and generally poor reception. I noticed he took the links to the SDRs off of his blog, so maybe he's having some technical issues.

Last night, I had the following:
1220 KHTS Canyon Country, CA - 500 watts, Christmas music, 98.1 references mixed with KSLM
1350 KLHC Bakersfield, CA - way too strong for 33 watts, likely day power, Punjabi talk, ads
1430 UNID Asian station under KMES / KBRC / etc., one of three Californians, I have KJAY in the logbook.
1240 KRJW Altamont OR (most likely) under super-local KXLE! Amy Lawrence, CBS Sports.
590 UNID Sports (KXSP Omaha?) and unid tropical SS (XEPH?) under KQNT/KSUB echo of Coast to Coast. Very unusual to hear Spanish on this channel.

Lately in the mornings, I've been hearing holiday/Christmas music on 1350, so KABQ?

You almost certainly have KXSP which is ESPN. I haven't a clue about the Spanish language station.

You mean that is the only station you hear on the receiver?

I have not heard anything extraordinary lately, but there is DX out there, including signals from Asia, Europe and Middle East.

However the reception is not as good as it used to be in the past. It would appear that their antenna set up is different from previous years. There is also increased noise on the receiver making reception more difficult. It appears that the owners scaled down this SDR. In the past they used to have a set up with two different antennas each favoring different areas (North America/Asia).
Pretty much my observation as well. I've heard both 1089 Talk Sport and the BBC Scotland blowtorch on 810, along with some of the flamethrowers from Spain and the Mideast, but that's about it most of the time. Disappointing so far this season.

I'm getting the distinct impression, but cant prove that the transpolar stuff doesnt happen till the later part of winter.. based upon what i expeirienced (and how i discovered transpolar by accident last year) and whats happening now.

Well last year and the year before the Arctic receiver was quite active at this time. In 2019 conditions were excellent. Last year not good after late December. Maybe it's the receiver, I don't know.

Anybody that needs WQMV (Waverly, TN) , they are blasting in right now with rock oldies. On top of that they are way off frequency at 1061.8 kHz.

Slim pickings for me these last few mornings. Conditions aren't the problem. Lack of anything that's actually new is the issue. Or maybe I've just been getting spoiled lately.

So....I'll settle for one I've heard before, but not for the last 5+ years.
1350 KRNT Des Moines. Yesterday 5:00am CST. Two or three weak signals mixing, then KRNT came through with a TOH ID. Then vanished into the slop. 5kw, "marble shooter" night pattern aimed mostly north. 281 miles.

I haven't had much time to look for new stations the last few days, but when I do it has seemed that reception is too good... I'm hearing many stations on a lot of frequencies, so anything new is going to be hard to find. Basically, the opposite of the auroral conditions we were getting a while back.

Here in DFW, I'm hearing WCBS 880 with a fair to fading signal in KRVN null tonight at 2025 CST. Clear ID and local news. First time to hear them after trying for the past month.

I went to 770 to see if WABC might be in however, I have local KAAM there. I'm able to get a slight null on KAAM, but all I could hear was XEFTRM and XEACH mixing. Also, have noticed a ~1khz het on 770 in KAAM null for the past weeks, anyone else have this?

Although not new, CKLW 800 was in fair and steady today at 1551 CST on my car radio well before my local sunset of 1725 CST.
