Post your latest DX

To this day I only have California and Colorado on 1690 - nothing else! I've looked for WVON for years, and have only heard traces of a third station under the strong pests from the west coast. Let alone Maryland or Georgia.
I don't know to what extent, if any, this would affect skywave, but to my observation, WVON's day AND night groundwave signal is weaker than it was when they first moved to 1690 about 15 or so years ago.. I can't blame urban development, because the area surrounding their transmitter site has been densely populated and developed for decades. They're on the south side of Chicago diplexed with WGCI (1390), which also is weaker here day and night than it used to be. Perhaps the ground system is deteriorating.

Have you or any other DXer’s had any luck picking up WQFG689 on AM 1710 in Chicago? I believe it is the only station on 1710 AM in the entire country. I have not had any luck picking it up here west of Rockies.

I listened to 1690 fairly often when they first came on the air as WRLL "Realoldies 1690" in 2003. Their groundwave wasn't very good then, but they had a good skywave signal. Both things you would expect that high on the band. I agree with your observation that the WVON groundwave seems to be worse now.

This may not be much of a DX situation, but I changed my surge protectors and reconnected selected AV equip. earlier today, including my Sony XDR-S3HD (the included AM loop antenna is sitting on an indoor windowsill facing west). This Sony radio forgets everything when unplugged, I reset the clock and was just tuning thru the AM band when WMT AM 600 (eastern IA) came in clear (KC metro area) just before I started this post (unusual because there's a local AM station at 610).

It was clear for about 1/2 hour, it's fading in and out now, just thought I would post this.

(WLW AM 700 and WGN AM 720 are also clear tonight even with KCMO AM 710 on locally, also WBAP AM 820 is clear tonight too, again, even with WHB AM 810 on locally)

For the first time this season I heard some DX from Alaska and the Western US on the Arctic SDR. Signals weren't strong, but they were there. 680 KBRW good, 1170 KJNP good, 1000 KOMO fair/good, 1160 KSL fair. Heard a station on 1130 but it wasn't KTLK. Couldn't get the ID. All this occurred between 0100 and 0130 CST. Looks like there's hope for some DX on the Arctic SDR. Maybe the antenna was adjusted again.

In my experience when using the Arctic SDR, if you are picking up KSL and KOMO, AM 1130 is usually CKWX from Vancouver. I bet that’s the station you were hearing tonight on there.

Just took a listen to the Arctic SDR myself and yes, the 1130 signal breaking through is CKWX from Vancouver, BC. I am also hearing CKMX Funny 1060 from Calgary, Alberta fading in and out. KOMO is quite strong at times as is KSL. In the past when KOMO was in like this, you would be guaranteed to hear KSL, CKWX and CKMX.

Meanwhile I am hearing some Christmas music on 1580 AM right now. Not sure what station this is, but presumably it is also from North America since they are playing the Carpenters “No Place Like Home for the Holidays.”

Also, the DX catch of the day on the Arctic SDR right now is KNX 1070 from Los Angeles. Positive confirmation with a news story about Manhattan Beach Police and then the reporter saying: “KNX News 97.1 FM.” So if I am able to pick up KNX on the Arctic SDR in Norway, I’d imagine you guys in Chicago should have a decent chance tonight!

Thanks for IDing CKWX. Your 1580 is CKDO Oshawa, Ontario coming in strong at 04:25 CST on the Arctic. Also caught CHIN Toronto airing an old "Dragnet" Radio show. Also, on the Westfjords, Iceland SDR WBBM and WJR coming in pretty well along with the east coast powerhouses. CFRB dominating WINS on 1010 and WBZ like a local at 05:30 EST.

DFW, Texas -- Sangean ATS-909X -- Times are CST.

New stations logged:

640 WBIN GA Atlanta 12/23/2021 2102 ID "Atlanta's BIN 640". Black Information News, good on top of channel o/Cuba with no KWPN. Odd that this station never surfaced before, and here it is dominating.

680 WMFS TN Memphis 12/23/2021 2107 ID "WMFS Memphis an Audacy station", Memphis Grizzlies basketball. Good E/W with KFEQ N/S.

830 XEITE MEX DF 12/23/2021 2035 Female talking in Spanish // stream, fair mixing with WCCO.

Not new, but 1040 WHBO Tampa Bay was in last night, listenable in WHO null. Also, on 1050 Khz at approximately 0345 today 12/24, heard CBS News aimed NW/SE in XEG null. Fair strength, but eventually faded and KJBN took over with gospel music.

Interesting morning between 6 and 6:30 CST today...

1180: For the first time in memory, R. Rebelde blowing out WHAM (which was audible underneath)
1270: Strong signal with Christmas music (secular and religious), faded after about 5 minutes, and I couldn't ID. Any guesses?
1380: Relevant Radio: Probably WMRJ, Nicholasville, KY (Lexington area) on 5kw day power, but I couldn't get a positive IC
1420: WHK Cleveland Fair signal. Comfortably on top. Hadn't heard this one for quite a while,

Radio was the C Crane Skywave.

I'd guess 1380 was KXFN in St Louis... they send a lot of signal to the north and I've been hearing them quite a bit lately. Also, I was getting strong signals from that direction last night. KTRS on 550 was really booming for example.
For 1270, the only thing that comes to mind is WWCA in Gary.

1380 in St Louis is Relevant Radio en espanol. RR in english on 1380 has two stations, KY. .and Tampa

Are you sure about that? I just checked their livestream and it is in English. I think St Louis is what I am hearing when I hear English Relevant Radio on 1380.

Whos live stream and whats the link? If youre depending on radio locator to be accurate, don't.

It's listed on the Relevant Radio En Espnaol website that 1380 St Louis runs that format

I tried several and they all gave the English broadcast. I used google translate on their Spanish website and this was the result:

Dear listener,

I am sending this release because changes will be made to your Relevant Radio station soon. As of Monday, May 17, all of our Relevant Radio stations in Spanish will begin broadcasting Catholic programming in English: 1080 AM Orlando, FL 1380 AM Tampa, FL 1660 AM Jacksonville, FL 1270 AM Gary, IN 1380 AM St Louis, MO 88.1 FM McAllen, TX 88.9 FM Harlingen, TX

So looks like they've recently switched all their Spanish stations to English.

Ah, somehow i missed that while up here in the frozen north

I heard them several times this year here in the Chicago area. It helps that there is not other station on the frequency.

I'm sure I'll have some logs up here by the end of tonight, but keep in mind it's Christmas Eve...and there will be lots of Christmas music on the 50KW blasters. I've already heard Mannheim Steamroller's show on KKOH 780, and KGO is running a local mix of Christmas music with occasional announcements from KGO staff. Many Canadian stations including CBC also running Xmas music.
Did just hear KNFL-740 Fargo ND w/ a PSA for 911.nd.gov.
Will Santa bring more gifts to Kittitas County? Stay tuned.....
