Post your latest DX

CIWW 1310 Ottawa, ON near Pellston, MI at 4:00 PM EST on CH Skywave. The regular CH stations closer in were absent, almost like Auroral conditions, just ground wave from nearby stations. Expanded Band stations absent. Nearby Class IVs/Class Cs interference free around Sunset.

Thanks. I could not believe it myself.

DFW, Texas

12/28 2:30pm CST. I’m at a shopping center parking lot in Lewisville (5 miles from my location) hearing “Oldies Radio” on 1650 kHz on my car radio. Good signal with great selection of songs and vintage commercials. Promoting website oldiesradio.us which contains a streaming link to the same broadcast. What have I got here?

About 10-15 there was a guy in North Dallas with a low powered AM on 1650 with oldies. Also streaming. Good listen despite lousy audio. Maybe the guy decided to move north to Lewisville. I don't remember his name or what he called his station, But it was a well-produced good oldies mix with vintage commericals.

(Duplicate post, which originally appeard in "FOTW: 1190). Computer issues....sorry).

Finally a new one! The drought is over. WATW, Ashland, WI "Bay Country". 780 watts on 1400, Around 5:45am CST this morning on on top for less than ten minutes with country music and positive ID. Distance 327 miles. Radio was C Crane Skywave.

A little later (around 6:15an CDT), during my continuing quest to snag KNX, WDIA was in. Fair signal a few fades, with KHMO breaking through during one of them. Not a new catch here, but it's been several years since I've heard them. Probably 50kw day pattern. Distance 491 miles. Radio; C. C. Skywave.

I found a thread from 2016 on this Oldies Radio 1650 khz station:

Definitely limited coverage, as it was unlistenable by the time I got back home, approx. 5 miles west.

Thanks for that tidbit. I guess I was a little over an hour late.

I'll try to hang out for a while on 1400 before 5am from time to time over the next couple of weeks and see if I can catch WATW breaking through on 1400. This morning it came and went in a hurry, but I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time. 1400 is one of the tougher gy frequencies around here. And having WJRN on the channel 36 miles away, doesn't exactly help matters. Fortunately, WRJN is pretty easy to null....and doing so orients the radio directly in the direction of WATW.

I'm on the Merthyr Tydfil UK SDR

I know the BBC owns the Radio Waves in the UK, Love listening to it

I'm on 1215 kHz I got a Echo Effect by 2 Stations playing the Same thing in that Area

Absolute Radio

In the UK, and elsewhere around Europe, networks are more common than here. In the case of the AM band, the space around 1210-1220 used to be Virgin Radio, I believe Absolute radio may be the current version of what was once Virgin Radio. I'm not sure. It's been nearly ten years since I've been the UK. Other examples of British stations with their own space on the dial are Talk Sportsn on 1089 and adjacent frequencies with transmitters all over the country carrying the same program originating in London.

The national networks are also on FM. One that comes to mind is Classic FM. A London-based classical music service with transmitters all around the country simulcasting on or near 101 mhz.

Nice openings for TA DX this evening on the upper half of the AM band And hopefully a sign of what's coming during the next few weeks. A few highlughts....

Arctic SDR (Norway).
1030: WBZ Very weak but TOH ID and CBS news came through
1130: WBBR "The Canary in the Coal Mine": Strong and alone.
1200: CFGO Hockey. Weak with multiple fades
1310: WIBA Wisconsin vs Illinois State basketball
1540: KXEL Strong for a couple of minutes with Mark Levin, then completely vanished
1570: (Unknown) Oldies, Very weak, but sounded like an American mix (as opposed to Canadian or UK) Any ideas?

Westfjords SDR (Norway)

740: CFZM Surprisingly rare (at least for me), but there it was with a good signal and alone (matched online stream)
1140: CBI (Nova Scotia) Fair and alone. CBC talk
1200: WMUZ good
1280: CFMB (Montreal) Fair but alone. Positive ID in English. Instrumental music fill between ethnic programming.
1310: CIWW (Ottawa) Fair-good. Alone with minimal fading. Sports talk. (I liked them better as Oldies 1310 LOL)
1500: WLQV Fair with religious talk. No trace of WFED

All of this between approx 7:00 and 8:30[m CST

Hope this is a sign that the Arctic signals will be better. I caught one maybe two good sessions on it recently. Some others not good. Westfjords has been very good most nights. This morning the Kaneohe, Hawaii SDR was wide open to the mainland. WGN coming in pretty well at about 3AM CST.

On Tuesday shortly before midnight, I logged a new one on 1600 - KNWA in Bellefonte, AR. Atop the jumble of stations, I heard classic country music in and out: "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood, "Any Day Now" by Ronnie Milsap, and "Anymore" by Travis Tritt." Didn't get an ID, but the songs all matched KNWA's stream. Distance was 561 miles, and I was listening on my little Sony SRF-T615.

Back in Houston after 10 days away, finally had some time to DX (all times CST)

680 KFEQ MO, St Joseph 12/29/21 1754 not new but very strong in KKYX null w/"your home for Ag news" ID and Agriculture USA
690 XEMA, Mexico, Fresnillo, Zac. 12/29/21, ranchera mx and excited announcer //stream in XEN, KGGF null
730 XEHB, Mexico, Monterrey, Chih. 12/29/21 1801 clear ID with XEX nulled, fighting KTRH slop
860 XENL, Mexico, Monterrey, Chih. 12/29/21 1737 clear ID and ballad in KKOW null, no sign of KONO, XEUN possibly underneath
1000 KKIM, NM, Albuquerque, 12/29/21 1740 strong w/discussion of COVID vax, quoting scripture (vaccine is "sorcery" according to the announcer!). //stream
1190 KXKS, NM, Albuquerque, 12/29/21 1747 fair in mix w/Larry Elder Show, ID as the Answer, //stream

An evening of Mexico and Albuquerque...

1260 UNID, 12/30/21, 0028 heard announcer mention "Sportsnet radio network all night" but no local content. Got excited thinking maybe CFRN, until I checked and they run ESPN all night. May be the much-closer KTAE, but their website has no schedule shown and their stream didn't work. I can't find any reference to Sportsnet other than the Canadian one.

I seem to recall that guy was a poster on RadioDiscussions, but don't remember his handle.

Just for accuracy, Monterrey is in Nuevo León, not Chihuahua state in Mexico.

Oops, you're right of course. Actually, looking again, 730 XEHB is in Hidalgo del Parral, Chih, not Monterrey. I need to proofread before posting :))

The 1650 kHz Oldies Station announcer did refer to studio on Mockingbird and multiple mentions of North Dallas.

At the same loc in Lewisville, I also heard NOAA weather station KEC56 on 1670 kHz with good strength. I think this is a TIS out of Farmers Branch.
