96.7 El Patron, why??

Um, these are ancient domains registered by Clear Channel before iHeart when these stations actually existed.
Ancient?! 🤣 You’re hilarious! šŸ˜ It’s always good to check the update dates on domains, no matter if they were registered 5, 10 or even 15 years ago because iHeart Media happens to often reuse or even sit on domains for many years without using them, just as other sister broadcasters do sometimes and then, uses or reuses domains from their past station formats and branding. Also, El Patron is already on HD-2 on 96.7 FM in Atlanta as well as elsewhere on the airwaves. Just in case y’all may as well know or not it, El Patron is a branding that dates back to the Jacor / Clear Channel days. Why do even y’all think iHeart Media even wants to put a station branding and format on the air on a frequenter like 96.7 that doesn’t even coverage of the demographics the station would be playing music for?! Just curious.šŸ˜‰ Also, is it always this wild and entertaining with y’all Southeastern/ East Coast folks or just the metro Atlanta, GA market when ā€œstationsā€ are about to flip?! I mean, Wow! 🤣

Here’s 96.7 WBZW’s Contour maps for y’all folks. 96.7 WBZW Contour Maps

Also, the 94.9 WUBL Contour maps as well!
WUBL 94.9 Contour Maps

I will close in asking you, why do you think iHeart Media would go to the trouble of lining up on air talent and other nationally syndicated talent, even publishing their schedules on a new website and already purchased advertising, promos and then, just decide not to launch a station or format?!

The RDAP, the registry database for both these names was updated this morning. 12/30

"The Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP) enables users to access current registration data and was created as an eventual replacement for the WHOIS protocol"

Those are updated daily and has nothing to do with when a domain's registration or DNS is modifed.

Since this whole thread was based around someone taking the reporting from my paywalled content, perhaps someone should actually listen to WBZW and listen to the promos for the new format being aired. Spoiler: It's what I reported it would be in said report.

When people pretend they are in a position to know ..

The station appears to most certainly be flipping to El Patron. While listening to the (still-playing) Christmas music, there was a brief ad (in Spanish) between songs, and I could clearly hear "El Patron" in the ad. So the writing is definitely on the wall now. The "Breeze" will have to blow around elsewhere.

Have you tried looking up the registration details or typing in the web addresses of www.967litefm.com or www.949litefm.com , lately possibly? šŸ˜‰ 😊 To iHeart Media folks, this is a game that is enjoyed as well as at other radio companies to throw off the real forthcoming changes.
The same way that paid site gets there info I can do it for free by searching Iheart servers. Those were the latest iHM domains registered that clued 96.7

There’s never going to be a ā€œBreezeā€ formatted station in Atlanta. The novelty seems to be wearing off nationwide.

There is no "novelty" value in that format. "Music of Your Life" lasted for a number of decades... from 1978 till, in a few places, today.

The soft AC format is a byproduct of the modernization of mainstream AC stations in the last decade. That left a predominantly 50+ audience less well-served. So, in some markets able to sustain a station that could only get local direct advertising accounts, the format remains most viable and is a significant alternative for more marginal signals and owner-operator stations.

What the ā€œBreezeā€ stations are, at least initially, are somewhat of a copy of the updated WDUV in Tampa, but a bit softer and older. As we commonly have seen, though, in markets like Philadelphia, Jacksonville, Miami, etc. - the true soft AC format has to be tweaked to be more modern and upbeat, or in Miami’s case culturally relevant for the station to have a chance in the market it ends up sounding somewhat reminiscent of the AC format 15 years ago or so. WDUV is still an exception in this case, but they are more like a pop leaning classic hits station at this point. The demos of the market seemingly helped sustain it for years until they finally had to make a change.

My point in saying all of this is to attempt to reason that iHeart is not going to blow up one of their class C FM signals in Atlanta for a soft AC as is continually claimed. If there is evidence of an audience for it, I’d certainly be interested in seeing it instead of a bunch of unfounded speculation that’s been going on for over a year.

Looking at 96.7, I don’t know if iHeart is even concerned about Davis or vice versa. The primary signal area of 96.7 is mostly outside of even the 107.1 translator ā€œbooster’sā€ listening area. Sounds to me like iHeart wants to have two different Spanish formats targeting different audiences for sales purposes.

This format is being launched so iHM can tout it supports diversity and to pander to advertisers (especially national advertisers) looking to make ethnic-driven buys for optical purposes. Same reason the extremely low cume "Black Information Network" exists.

The wrong format was placed on 105.7, by the way. *That* signal should be programming Regional Mexican. 105.7's ratings are a disaster!

Sure looks as if senior management at iHM Atlanta is clueless when it comes to programming to folks whose primary language is Spanish in the region.

For a company as large as iHM that owns as many terrestrial FM signals as it does, it amazes me how few of those signals are programmed with formats geared toward primary Spanish speakers.

Because it's expensive. They have to hire a specialized sales force, in addition to a specialized operations team. That's what CBS did years ago when it launched the format in several markets. Then there's the issue of competing against companies whose primary purpose is serving that demographic.

Just hire the right people .. it’s not that complicated

Looking at the names of the on-air staff, I see people who all currently work in the format within the iHeart system:

For example, Rico Hernandez and Adrian Martinez are currently in Phoenix, Gina Ulmos is in Boston, and Luis Trevino is in Oklahoma City.

Well that sounds wack.. talk about having no faith in the format . Come on I heart if your going to launch in a top ten market make a effort to have local solid talent

Why make a judgement on the talent of an individual based on geography?

These are all qualified people with years of experience in the format in major markets.

As you said, just hire good people. It's not that complicated.
