How close is Triv to retirement?

He keeps threatening to leave, when will he make good on his threats and hopefully be replaced by someone who is more pro-big government, high taxes and less libertarian, small government?

Triv goes when HE wants to go.

He's in the same club with Goddard, Lanigan, Tom Hamilton, and Jim Donovan.

and I'm still trying to figure out how the hell that happened.

Look at his ratings and the $$$$ he brings in to the station. We might not like him or his show, but the #s dont lie.

I'd rather he be replaced by someone entertaining & intellegent.

But he'll only leave when he's had too much of CC's BS...and they pay him well to put up with it.

Triv only THINKS he has that type of power. His counterpart in Tampa, Steve "The Big Dog" Deumig (sports host with right wing leanings, big ratings) almost left CC when he was severely low-balled in his contract negotiations three months ago.

After they finally signed a new contract at the 11th hour, Deumig made comment that his PD had "gotten his pound of flesh" and has shied away from making any sort of "I call the shots around here, not my PD" comments that he was famous for before.

Triv will find out the new status quo when his contract is up. The new CC ownership that took over last year is much, much, much more cost conscious than the old owners and won't hesitate to dump a "highly rated" talent if they think they're paying to much for him.

I don't doubt at all that reality could hit Triv, and hard. Just ask North Carolina radio personality Jim Mantel.

Overall, he's full of a lot of bluster, and really, always has been. I don't think it's directly related to his contract situation.

No matter who takes over PMD, no one can really replace Triv. He was pretty much the last host on WTAM to attract a huge following.
This is sadly true.

Remember that Triv was able to harness the same populist appeal that Pete Franklin, Gary Dee and Lanigan all did. Regardless of what anyone thought of Triv, there is no denying that he always knew what his audience was, and knew what they wanted. (It does portend into the issues surrounding talk radio in general, but that’s a thought for another day.)

I think the biggest issue with any successor will be the commercial spot loads and adherence to a format clock. It is tough to do a talk show when there are so many commitments like traffic and weather together, et al. For the time being, they might be better off eschewing phone calls and attempt to build chemistry with the new hosts for a few weeks/months (provided Seth Williams and Carmen Angelo are retained as support staff).

The last Cleveland PPM I saw (6-7 years ago) showed WMMS easily beating WTAM in the 25-54 men demo in afternoon drive. No offense to Triv, but that’s pretty typical of traditional talk, even most classic rocks, are mainly male listeners, age 55+.

Traffic and weather every 10 minutes is excessive. I would suggest they change it to every 15 minutes.

Bruce Drennan is on WTAM today. He would be a great replacement for Triv, although he's probably too old. And I think I heard he is moving to Florida.
