My oldies/AC iPod

I did this for standards. I would, naturally, include a number of songs from that list here, but I'm not going to try to figure out which ones should be included on both. There may be some overlap in what actually goes here. And it will take several posts. This is not a radio format since a nunmber of songs I don't want would be here if it were.

I like this list!

No Dionne Warwick other than the duet with the Spinners? No Linda Ronstadt other than When Will I Be Loved? Five by Air Supply but only one by Fleetwood Mac? No Rod Stewart at all? (Oops, I'm discussing the list!)
Dionne Warwick's songs are all under standards, on the other thread. So are Linda Ronstadt's, The Carpenters (I assume), and Neil Diamond (I assume). I decided not to check to see what was there and what wasn't.

Wait, I thought I had three by Fleetwood Mac.

I may have to rethink Rod Stewart, but plenty of his songs are under standards. just not the ones you were expecting.

I have realized that I didn't include any surfing songs by Jan and Dean or The Beach Boys, so like the other thread, this one is not complete.

Good programme; it almost sounds like you're building a library similar of what Foreground Music One was in its heyday but more oldies-driven.

I'd post my current project (started about 15 years ago as a clone of Foreground but quickly took on a life of its own) but at almost 3500 lines I doubt this BBS software would process it without choking....

No Dionne Warwick other than the duet with the Spinners? No Linda Ronstadt other than When Will I Be Loved? Five by Air Supply but only one by Fleetwood Mac? No Rod Stewart at all? (Oops, I'm discussing the list!)

Dude, cut it out. He's building a library and it's (I assume) early in development. I'm sure your personal music libraries probably weren't as huge and complete as Muzak's when they were in their early stages, were they? I'm kind of glad you didn't see my "AM Only" clone library when I started developing it about two years ago: "No Johnny Mathis other than 'When Sunny Gets Blue'? *fume* No Gordon Lightfoot other than 'Minstrel of the Dawn'? Three by Perry Como but no Andy Williams? *froth* Where's Percy Faith? No Patsy Cline at all? AAAAAAGHHHHHHH MY CHEST!! SOMEBODY CALL 911 DAMMIT!!!!!!! *heavy breathing*"

If you don't approve of vchimp's selections, feel free to grab some CDs and MPx files and build your own library. Be sure to post it here for all of us to mock.

Actually, this is close to a complete list, but I think like the other one, it'll have additions later on as I think of them. And if the songs are older or softer, they probably are already in the list for standards.

^-- Hataz ganna keep hatin, yo.

I do something similar with some Christmas mixes with pop, rock, CCM, Dr. Demento style comedy music, and various audio and comedy clips. I put it on a flash drive, and run it at random on my car stereo. It could be Bing Crosby one minute and Weird Al Yankovic the next. I have enough now that I can't listen to it all during the Christmas season. 😁

The more I think about it the more songs I realize I left out. There's no one master list for this topic like there is for the standards list. There are four lists, created when a web site I was a member of limited the length of posts. Once that site shut down I was able to move those posts to where they could be expanded and then edited. I have made notes over the years listing additions I wanted to make, but apparently I didn't make those additions. Either that or I never thought of adding the songs.

And soon I will add a second post listings many of the songs I didn't put in the first post. I did not intentionally include songs that were in the standards list, but in the case of Elvis and a couple of others I might have. I might also have left out songs that were not in the standards list.

What I use to do on my music player was separate artists by folders. The most significant LPs of songs by Beach Boys, Chicago, Beatles, plus the hits by Elvis, etc., were in folders.

But later, I decided to throw all the pop hits by those artists and every other artist I possess, basically tons of pop Top 40 hit songs I like from 1955-1984, with some from the 90s like Enya, into one big folder. About 3k songs total.

I put the player on random and may hear Chuck Berry or Connie Francis and then CCR or Tommy James then maybe Tom Petty from 1979, Fleetwood Mac from the 70s, then a great early 80s song, followed by early 60s, then an early 70s Carpenters, then mid 60s, then late 50s, maybe a Glenn Miller song, then Fine Fine Day from 84 by Tony Carey, then Del Shannon's Runaway, a lot of Motown, etc. It's a big variety.

If I want to hear a Chicago or Beach Boys LP, I still have those folders, but focus mostly on the singles. One of those folders is Cusco, a great new age act, and other Art Bell music.

These are just some of the songs I should have included above. Amazingly, I made four lists back ten years ago, when the web site I was on limited the size of posts. And these songs weren't on any of them. Some of the songs here I put on lists of what I intended to add to the four lists, and just never did. I don't think any of these are on my standards list, but my intention was not to include any of the songs from there.

Looks like your answer to "Which Elvis songs should we play?" was "All of them!"
I went back and looked at my list on the standards board. I removed all but one from this list that goes here (which I will find a way to post eventually) and added two. The list on the standards board (the updated version which I will also post somewhere) has "all of them".
