This would come as a great surprise to Freddy Snakeskin, who used to program the music on KCBS-FM before he was downsized.
Correct. Sparknet consults the top 50 markets, but the local PDs and management put it all together.

Didn't say the format. Just the name.
I see. Let's look at old brands, then.

Ford, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Chrysler.
Tide, Huggies, Ivory, Dove.
Coca-Cola, Oscar Mayer, Clorox
Kellog's, Herhey, Heinz
Colgate, Tide, Disney
Crest, Oreo, Kraft
Lay's, Ritz, Scotch

I could go on, but the point is that an established and untarnished brand is a huge asset. A good brand can last for decades if maintained and relevant.

Brands that did not "keep up" became dated... Burma-Shave and Ipana come to mind. Others became dated, such as Brylcreem, because tastes change. But in the case of "Jack" the brand is relevant and identifiable.

Don't forget X103.9 in the IE did an active rock/alternative format for years. Although they called it the IE's alternative, they would mix in bands like Slipknot and Three Days Grace.

Yeah, there is no need to mess with Jack-FM. One of Audacy’s bright spots in LA along with KRTH. Now if people want to talk about changing the format and imaging of “The Wave,” on 94.7 KTWV FM, that’s another story!

The biggest problem with The Wave is that it is aging out. But it's still billing moderately well and averages just inside the top 10 in 25-54.

So now that this board has established that Audacy shouldn't bother trying to reinvent KROQ, given the demographics of Los Angeles, etc., what should they do with 106.7? And is there any future for the "KROQ" brand? Perhaps it's as a nostalgia play? Perhaps KROQ continues to exist as an HD-2 and online "Roq of the 80s" format, and maybe KRTH does "KROQ Roq of the 80s" Sunday night block?

Huh? What do you think they're doing right now? Haven't you seen the threads where they're adjusting the playlists and looking to hire an active rock host?
This entire thread we've discussed how there's only room for one alt station in LA, and 98.7 has won. The question is, what *should* they be doing, not what they *are* pointlessly doing.

There are lots of options. They seem to be trying a lot of them right now.
But they're still in the rock or alt genre. As David Eduardo and others have pointed out, that's not going to work. There's no audience for it in Los Angeles. The demos aren't there. It's futile. So what should the future be for 106.7?

Using a multi-book average and not including Christmas-season influenced December, KINK is 7th in teens and 15th in 18-24 and even 14th in 18-49. It is 6th in 35-64.

KPNT is 14th in teens.
I'm not aiming this at anyone in particular but what is this about KINK reaching teens? I flipped by them about a week ago and didn't notice any difference. At first, I thought it was a typo. I don't think KINK has attracted teens in any measure since they were a Top 40 hybrid in 1969!

14th in teens is not "reaching" teens. Same lesson as B/EZ and 18-34 females, only worse, Semoochie.

Hasn’t it always? Speaking from personal experience, teenagers usually seek you out, not the other way around. You just gotta give them a product they want.

Far, far easier said than done.
And there is no incentive for giving them a product they want in terms of a radio format, since there's no radio advertising demand for teens.

I agree completely but one poster said KINK claimed to be second in teens and David said it was seventh! I agree that seventh still isn't much but for a station that's aging out, it's quite a bit!
