Tom Brady Retirement

Looks like Tom Brady has retired. An epic career with the New England Patriots and 2 years in Tampa Bay. 7 Super Bowl victories in 10 Super Bowl games and 34 playoff wins. The amount of Playoff games he played was like 3 additional seasons. That's mind boggling. Brilliant quarterback and truly the GOAT. The amazing thing is that he can STILL play at an MVP level. He probably could have gone 3 more years. It's not like other QBs who stuck around with faded skills...

Good riddance!
A bitter Buffalo fan? Brady was 32-3 vs the Bills.

It's strange how Americans love winners, but at the same time some hate the great ones when they win "Too much". I guess some people hate Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Joe Montana, etc... for the same reasons...

FYI Fox Sports is disputing this story. They say the only source is ESPN, and Fox Sports isn't satisfied with that. They say Tampa's GM says he hasn't heard from Tom. Tom's father has tweeted that the story is untrue. So there you go.

You can read all of the sources who tell Fox Sports that Brady hasn't decided yet:

Rick Stroud
@NFLSTROUD
Confirming Tom Brady has called #Bucs GM Jason Licht to inform him he has NOT made up his mind about retiring or playing in 2022. @MikeSilver reported it first.

JUST IN: Tom Brady Sr. tells @kron4news that his son is not retiring. Brady Sr. says an online publication started circulating an unsubstantiated rumor. However a number of NFL insiders are now reporting it. @kron4news #TomBrady #NFL

Brady's agent said, "Tom will be the only person to express his plans with complete accuracy. He knows the reality of the football business and planning calendar as well as anybody, so that should be soon."

The Washington Post reports it this way: "Tom Brady appears poised to retire."

Some reports have said Brady doesn't want his announcement to interfere with the Conference Championship games tomorrow and the Super Bowl. Brady is still under contract to Tampa for the 2022 season.

It sounds like someone with inside information "leaked" the retirement news. NFL reporters have many close contacts, so perhaps the story got out before it was supposed to. It wouldn't be shocking if Brady retires. He's got nothing left to prove. Brady said in a recent Podcast that he was "Satisfied".

Rob Gronkowski retired from the Patriots for one year and then joined Tampa Bay. The door is always open until it's not...

The exact same thing happened this past week with the Breyer retirement at the Supreme Court. When it was reported, the man himself was a bit miffed. Nobody wants someone else to break your story.

Agreed, but it's a huge sports story. Someone always wants to get "The Scoop". It will be confirmed or denied sometime soon I suspect...

The Fox Sports Radio hosts were saying there is immense pressure at ESPN to break news. The people close to the story have all spoken. All Brady has to do is lay low and the story will go away until he's ready to make an announcement.

Dolphins...and there are a ton of reasons to despise him. Joe Montana has 4 rings. One of them came at Miami's expense. I've mellowed over time. I never will with Brady.

Anyways, he likely wouldn't leave TV anyways. Probably would become a commentator somewhere.

It's more important to be first than accurate. Especially if you're marketed as an "insider," rather than a reporter. ESPN is notorious for this, and Schefter is one of the worst.

You've got to hand it to ESPN. They're not backing down off their story. They're standing by their reporting:

But everyone else is hedging on saying it's a done deal.
ESPN is reporting it this morning as if it's fact. They are standing by their initial report. If Brady does not retire, they can always say he changed his mind...

Imho,
I think Tom Brady was sooo mad they didn't close out the RAMs and simply add another BRADY MOMENT to the post season story;
he felt he NEEDED to be in the headlines and bret Favre-d his way into the discussion.

SIMILAR to Collingsworth-less calling a game in SNF, between Raiders and Cowboys with the buccs on a bye and Mr Collingsworth saying the Dak steps into his throws much like... Tom Brady and Al Michaels, sighs and just says .... well compared to the goat, guess that's the worst thing in the world.

.... Then 10 minutes later, Another thing about the way brady plays...

I remember switching off a broadcast several years ago after counting at least 5 references in about 10 minutes to Payton Manning... In a game he wasn't even playing in. For some reason some sportscasters or networks just get off chatting about certain players or placing certain athletes on a pedestal every chance they get, even in cases when it makes no sense or has no relevance to the game at hand. Sadly, it leads to some players being strongly disliked, simply because some grow tired of hearing their names constantly or having them injected into conversation ad nauseam.

Agree.
And, you said it easy better than I could
thank you.....

I'm working on that :)

Tom Brady addressed the ESPN report of his retirement Monday on his podcast:

Brady confirmed it, so ESPN got it right on Saturday. Someone close to Brady obviously "leaked" it to a reporter. ESPN is vindicated.

Now, the next speculation will be --When will Brady make a return to New England for one last hurrah? Stay tuned...

Probably at the Pats' 2022 home opener, when they retire his number.
