And now we welcome the esteemed and knowledgeable Michi as a new moderator, focusing on this area!I'm happy to see this. It's an interesting area of radio and I'm looking forward to reading and taking part in more discussions around the subject - it's good that the forum has been moved out of the forum "graveyard".

That's a tough one. LPFM is definitely a thing on its own, and so are translators, but they have similar coverage areas. Right now, the LPFM forum looks pretty good where it's at.Question. Should I rename the LPFM forum LPFM and Translators?
Debatable. I think the major distinctions are coverage and commercial status.Question. Should I rename the LPFM forum LPFM and Translators?
I agree they should be. The LPFM group should be expanded to LPFM and Noncommercial Educational Stations. This is because many questions that come in other forums relate to the noncommercial nature of LPFM and NCE stations and the same policies apply to both.I think that those two distinctions make for two separate subjects.
That will never happen because of Section 5(3) of the Local Community Radio Act of 2010 as there would be an expectation that these translators would become a primary service. It would also raise a ton of §307(b) issues around fair distribution and community coverage. It also raises issues around "fill-in" service as if the underlying AM station was to disappear, there would be no reference to base fill-in service on and many fill-in translators would see a drastic loss in coverage if transitioned to the "non-fill in" rules. It could also migrate into a discussion of commercial LPFM stations, which has been a long dead horse issue.(Of course, the interesting future subject concerns divorcing translators from AMs and allowing the Ancient Modulation stations to be eliminated)
