Why would they suddenly pull the plug on The Breeze, and not have anything to replace it with?
Also remember when 106.1 flipped from Smooth Jazz to Rhythmic AC "Philly's 106.1" they shadowcasted on 104.5 while dumping Sunny and eventually launching Rumba.iHeart is doing the same thing with KUBE in Seattle. It's been simulcasting another station for almost 2 weeks.
So don't be surprised if this continues for a while. Meanwhile 104.5 is unchanged.
That's what I'm assuming too. I thought the station sounded good, and they were trending younger recently, but it could still have been a tough sell.Demographics must have been too old, which was the fear when soft AC was initially floated as a new format.
It could definitely still serve a purpose on an HD2 or HD3. Plus, as far as we know, the remaining Breezes (San Francisco, Sacramento, Mansfield, OH) are doing pretty well ratings wise (but again, that doesn't necessarily translate to $$)Demographics must have been too old, which was the fear when soft AC was initially floated as a new format.
Now I wonder what will happen to all those Breezes that iHeart put its HD subchannels in so many markets. Does WWYZ-HD2 in Hartford, for example, return to classic country?
So remember all those possible formats people were throwing around for 104.5? They're all in the running for this station.
Country? Would Bobby Bones like to be in another major market? I think yes.
iHeart is also pushing an 80s format with Martha Quinn as host, but I think there's already too much 80s here.
Does WXTU bill enough to go after a piece of that pie and split it further?
I would think a different type of country stations would be the best option.
I feel Valerie’s pain. Sad to see her out of a job and hopefully she’ll bounce back.Valerie Knight confirms the station is flipping formats:
