Anything is possible in this city. Some have said The Breeze won't change format and look what happened.Given that WXTU merely has a 5.3 6+ share despite being the only Country station in the market, I'm not sure it's a format that could be profitable in Philadelphia with the audience split in half. I'm not sure what to expect for WISX, but I doubt it will be Country for that reason.
A heavier mix and past grunge would run headfirst into WMMR (and more and more as time passes, that grunge would smack into WMGK).Is it possible 1045 gets blown up for talk, country, hot ac, whatever and Alternative moves to 106.1, but like the old WDRE and WPLY a whole fresh NEW start, mix of heavy current, not chicken alternative, Past, Grunge, Punk old school 70s, like the X on the left coast, this would not interact with 933 or 1029. There is still life in this format if done right not safe.

Because it’s a space filler. Because someone wants to. Because space aliens said so.Why would they simulcast Q102 on 106.1 if they intended to play country on that signal?
Using that logic, the question would apply to any format, wouldn't it?Why would they simulcast Q102 on 106.1 if they intended to play country on that signal?

This is known as stunting.Because it’s a space filler. Because someone wants to. Because space aliens said so.
You cannot rule it in or out because of the temporary simulcast.
Stunting is a type of publicity stunt in radio broadcasting, where a station—abruptly and often without advance announcement—begins to air content that is seemingly uncharacteristic compared to what is normally played.
Clear Channel used TWO formats over nearly two years after acquiring 101.7 in the Boston market to flush out the modern rock audience -- first AC, then EDM. Both essentially placeholders for the current occupant of the frequency, WBWL The Bull.Using that logic, the question would apply to any format, wouldn't it?
Country is a younger format than Soft AC. They're basically flushing the old audience (not that there was much of one).
While I guessed country favorites earlier, let me add that Philly isn't Austin and I don't know if I can really see it being a two country-station town.
XTU's share with Country is typically somewhere in the 4's. Compare that to Beasley's rock stations -- MMR is #1 in the market with a share in the 7's and MGK usually has a share in the 6's. Don't those combined rock numbers look like a more attractive target to pick off than than country?
A low-flow toilet takes care of that level of flushing. Ain’t no clogs to be found. They're basically flushing the old audience (not that there was much of one).
That's about as apt an analogy as we're gonna find. Thank you!Clear Channel used TWO formats over nearly two years after acquiring 101.7 in the Boston market to flush out the modern rock audience -- first AC, then EDM. iHeart sounds fishy right about now.iHeart seeing if they can get one of their competitors to blink first
Should 104.5 underperform, iHeart also has the route of going country on 106.1 and a different variation of rock (not Alt) on 104.5 if they want to at least try to 1-2 punch Beasley. If they went down the country route, iHeart has some incentives at trying to launch a competitor to XTU. It's got no real competition, and it does perform strongly. Whether or not they'd be successful is another question.
After milling on it this morning, I'm starting to feel like either rock or country is equally possible. The rock option is a no-brainer in my opinion, but stranger things have happened, and a second country station isn't out of the realm of possibility.
