Ok good luck. Don’t wager much!I'd be willing to put money on 1090 The Patriot with conservative talk.

Well, you’ll have to accept my own two eyes, as this is what I personally witnessed being a student a few years ago at a “progressive” university. For an institution that prides itself on being a safe space for all beliefs, you had better keep any opinions that do not align with the left to yourself. It doesn’t matter if your belief is fairly moderate, either you are with them or you aren’t.Fordranger- Please cite one example of students on a college campus in 2022 showing disrespect to veterans. Being anti-war is NOT anti-veteran. Heck, even being anti-military is not anti-veteran. What little campus protest I have seen has a lot more to do with being anti-capitalist than anything. Maybe a little anti-vax or anti-mask thrown in for good measure. Standard campus stuff.
Notalent- Do you like, actually, LIVE in Seattle? By what metric are you judging the "failure" of Seattle? Because if the city was failing you would see folks moving out in droves and housing prices plummeting. But of course the opposite is true. Yes, the city has problems, but so does every big city. And if you know your history you know it has always been so. Yup, lots of homelessness...that is true. Vast majority caused by opiate addiction, and the majority of that by a few notable players in the pharma world. Seattle is left to deal with the problems shoved their way by others.
1090 has just been assigned new calls. KPTR. I am guessing this would be for "Patriot"? Kelly pretty much nailed it, I am afraid. "...more Crazytown radio calling themselves patriots."
Those who are not directly impacted by what goes on in Seattle will continue to believe that these politicians are protecting the citizens of Seattle. I guess it’s easy to believe that if you don’t actually go there and can read about the progressive movement in the newspaper.Yeah, I actually do live in Seattle, Queen Anne. I was one of the lucky to have a guy try sneaking up behind me to smash my head with a rock and maybe steal my 5 year old iPhone... Lucky I saw him coming out the corner of my eye and narrowly escaped with my life as he was going for the broken bottle in his coat pocket. My dentist is in Century Square, 4th and Pike. Parking at 3rd and Pine. I know how it is. My Doctor is at 12th and Madison, I go there very frequently and I know how Seattle is. I sometimes take the bus when I work at Climate Pledge Arena... Over 75% of the time there are "incidents" on the way home at 10pm.
One more conservative talk station will change nothing here so just stop wringing your hands, the sky will not fall and Kshama Sawant will continue to try to kill the goose.
The far left consists of a handful of people but the far right constitutes the entire Republican Party! As opposed to the ultra far left, which have been known to stomp on the American flag and make many remarks that would be highly disrespectful to veterans? Just going by some of the behavior that takes place on free-thinking college campuses these days.
Believe it or not, that's pretty much true. American politics for the most part is shifted right compared to the rest of the globe, and it can explain why America hasn't adopted universal healthcare or the metric system like the rest of the developed world. A modern-day Democrat in the United States (with the exception of a handful of people like Bernie Sanders) is actually closer to the centre of the political spectrum than toward the left, while most Republicans are farther to the right of the spectrum. The far left consists of a handful of people but the far right constitutes the entire Republican Party!
So does that mean that someone who doesn’t particularly care for the way politics in Seattle are currently being handled is the same as someone who storms the capital? The far left consists of a handful of people but the far right constitutes the entire Republican Party!
Aw, come on. I don't know any Republican anti-vaxers or any that don't thing that the extreme right shouldn't be pushed out of any influence on the party. The far left consists of a handful of people but the far right constitutes the entire Republican Party!
I think this goes both ways. Not all those who claim to be conservatives are for storming the Capitol, members of QAnon, or even Trump supporters, no more than all liberals to the extent of considering themselves Socialists. I know of many Republican's who were horrified at the events on January 6th, yet voted for Trump for right or wrong, but mainly because he was the incumbent Republican.Aw, come on. I don't know any Republican anti-vaxers or any that don't thing that the extreme right shouldn't be pushed out of any influence on the party.
Given the new call letters...bet the ranch!Ok good luck. Don’t wager much!
No disagreement...but will anyone be willing to bankroll it?I don't think Air America is a good example of what progressive talk could be. For the most part the hosts were not fun to listen to with entertaining presentations. I'd thing that a format that has engaging people first, and liberal subject matter second, would have a chance today.
I find that true. Many who voted for a Second Coming of Trump did so because they found, despite the defects, Trump to be better than the alternative. As time goes by, I'm starting to believe that, too.I know of many Republican's who were horrified at the events on January 6th, yet voted for Trump for right or wrong, but mainly because he was the incumbent Republican.
Those stations are finding a way to get a couple of share points and that, in competitive markets, makes them viable. In most cases, around 98% of the potential listeners are not listening. And there are enough local business people who are equally as nutty who buy ads on those stations.I have to say though; when it comes to AM stations constantly spraying fuel on the politically-divisive fires by perpetuating hate and misinformation? We need less of that, not more.
There are going to be enough AMs with moderately decent signals that can't find a viable format. The issue is not money but finding the talent and a programmer to guide them. Air America failed in part because management did not understand radio; they were motivated by ideology. No disagreement...but will anyone be willing to bankroll it?
And then we get to the fact that the hosts were not entertaining; they were so intense in their ideology that the shows were like a Political Science 101 lecture in college and were not fun to listen to. The novelty wore off rather rapidly.
I am definitely left of center, though not in the demo mentioned. I've never seen the point of listening to radio to hear political opinions I agree with. If I've already worked out in my mind that, as an example, climate change is real and an imminent threat, why would I want to spend one second listening to some gasbag on the radio who feels the same way? I just don't listen to talk radio, and I have a feeling many who share my leanings don't do so either. Yet it seems that conservatives need this strident reassurance from radio gasbags on their side of the spectrum that what they believe about climate change -- the opposite -- is true. Some proudly call themselves "Dittoheads." To me, that doesn't sound like something to be proud of in the least.I think what most are missing here is liberals don’t listen to talk radio. This is a conservative platform for the most part. Time and time again liberal talk shows fail with the 25-49 audience, perhaps because this demo doesn’t consider radio very important.
Those folks don't believe in leading but feel more comfortable with following. Nor do they believe in critical thinking. Some proudly call themselves "Dittoheads." To me, that doesn't sound like something to be proud of in the least.
You're right. A new even further right contingency has developed since the 2020 election but before that, the entire Republican Party was in sync with what was hitherto the far right! As long as we're completely off topic, an Alaska Republican US congressman just died, having been in office since 1973. How is this possible? If 49 years ago, he had behaved anything like a current Republican, he would have been thrown out of the party and probably be up on charges! So does that mean that someone who doesn’t particularly care for the way politics in Seattle are currently being handled is the same as someone who storms the capital?
You mean like publicly lying sometimes multiple times per day? Or paying off a porn star(s)? Or asking Ukraine to come up with false dirt on another politician? Those are some flaws alright!I find that true. Many who voted for a Second Coming of Trump did so because they found, despite the defects, Trump to be better than the alternative.
So if the current President lied to the public several times per day, or called dead veteran's "losers", would you think more of him?As time goes by, I'm starting to believe that, too.
Sure I get it. What else are you going to do with a derelict AM station? Doesn't mean it's healthy for a modern society. When you think about it, feeding listeners conspiracy theories and falsehoods is a mental health version of the harm caused by tobacco products. Both are legal, both make organizations money. Those stations are finding a way to get a couple of share points and that, in competitive markets, makes them viable. In most cases, around 98% of the potential listeners are not listening. And there are enough local business people who are equally as nutty who buy ads on those stations.
If it covers the utility bill and part of any debt, it makes sense financially. Most talk format stations don't get any agency accounts unless, of course, the agency is local and just following the client´s orders.
