WFAN - AM and FM Split

This afternoon I turned on 660 AM and heard the broadcast of today's Yankee preseason game. 101.9 FM was airing regular sports talk programming. How many people are interested in hearing an exhibition game on the radio? Will Audacy permanently program AM and FM differently?

Spring training.... who cares.

They may have a contractual obligation to air it, so it goes to ancient modulation.

Not a bad strategy as you get to monetize both the game and the show

Yes, since August 2019 WFAN has taken advantage of the "95% Total Line Reporting" rule to split the simulcast for up to 33.6 hours per 28-day survey period in order to air conflict games.

and Greater Flexibility For Broadcasters In Nielsen’s New Total Line Policy.

If they are about to bump up against that limit in any period, game broadcasts would get farmed out to other Audacy stations.
For example, last spring a few Brooklyn Nets games appeared on (what was then) 94.7 New York's Country.
