WSTR-FM will be rebranding as, "Star 94, the Station of the Stars." The music will consist of popular songs from movies of the past 25 years. Some examples are "Purple Rain" by Prince, "Superfly" by Curtis Mayfield, "Happy" by Pharrell Williams and "Independent Women" by Destiny's Child. The station has contracted with several movies stars to handle the air shifts.
The new lineup is:
6-10AM - Will Smith With the Hits
10AM-3PM - Liam Neeson
3-7PM - Brad Pitt
7PM-Midnight - Scarlett Johansson
"The Star 94 name has a lot of equity in this market, and it's time we took advantage of that,"commented Brand Manager Jerry McKenna. "Our ratings are going to be as high as the North Star."
The new format is kicking off with a contest to win a trip to Hollywood. The grand prize winner will also get to have dinner and drinks with the director of the Griffith Observatory. Other prizes include telescopes and free downloads of the GoSkyWatch app.
Star 94 also will be giving away money from the Big Dipper Cash Vault. SVP & Market Manager Rick Caffey added, "We had so much success with the V-103 Free Money Kitty, and reaching into the Big Dipper will be a great way to enhance the station's star-studded image."
The new format will start today, April 1.
