WMYI-HD2 bites the dust?

Looks like iHeart has shut off WMYI’s HD2. It’s still in HD, but no channels besides the main one anymore. 92.5, 100.5 and 104.9’s HD2s are still on.

If anyone was listening (I doubt), 102.5 HD2 last carried iHeart’s “Lullibies” format….

HD subchannels occasionally go offline for whatever reason, usually maintenance. For future reference, when an HD subchannel is offline, wait about a week or two to see if it comes back on. If the channel is not back on after a few weeks, then it might be off for good.

Ah, interesting. Got my first HD radio in a new car last summer so haven’t seen it happen yet.

Would delete this if I could, but it looks like it’s back up and running. Still lullabies.
What a waste of a channel. Who listens? Moms with new babies driving around in their car? People trying to go to sleep....in their car? (No one has an HD radio at home.)
I wish someone knew WHY they did it. 🤷‍♂️

Who knows...maybe the person who put that format on the HD2 channel was a big baby and wanted something that suited them.

Streaming rates are lower for over the air stations than online-only. They air the different iHeart streaming music formats on HD subchannels to take advantage of this. I wish they'd move classic soul over to 102.5 for better coverage.

Probably not a lot of listeners to Lullabies, but I can say there was a time I might have used it. I remember once putting the classical station on at bedtime or naptime for my kids and then the 1812 Overture came on.

I thought maybe IHeart was originating their lullabies station from 102.5, but they are not. I see absolutely no reason to be running that format on that signal. And you are correct! Classic soul would be a much better choice on 102.5 HD2 because it could hurt a station like Jamz. That would be a plus for ratings for IHeart.
