March Chicago Ratings

I'm not much of a follower of the Active Rock/Mainstream Rock formats, but WCHI-FM seems to be making the right adjustments, as they're now tied for 2nd 25-54.

They started focusing a little more heavy on 90s and 2000s Alternative than they already were at some point in the last several months. They still play 80s Rock but give or take a lot of Green Day, Garbage, Linkin Park, Blink 182, White Stripes, Sublime, No Doubt, Nirvana, Oasis, Stone Temple Pilots. Seems 50/50 on 80s and 90s-2000s lately. I always run into them playing one of these artists when scanning around

Wow, WXRT is in 6th place.
Is this the best it's ever been in the ratings?
As I have mentioned before, Nielsen is suffering from inadequate panel size, disproportional demos and even from lack of meters due to the global supply chain issues and the shortage of chips. Take all ratings with a grain of salt.

Are the advertisers and agencies sharing that skepticism? If so, are they ignoring the numbers they're being fed and allocating ad spending based on their gut-level perceptions of what the ratings SHOULD be?

The gains of Rock 95.5 are impressive. I think the Metallica concert promotion they did late last year really helped their cause.

Is the claim of a second place tie in A25 - 54 for real? I am very skeptical of that. A second place tie in MEN 25 - 54 would be more believable.

101.1 is getting it from both sides - 93.1 on one side and 95.5 from the other side. Not sure if WKQX even has a legitimate "right to exist" anymore.

When did the 95.5 frequency last crack a 3 share 6+? Has it since WNUA?
August 2013 was the last time 95.5 cracked a 3 share.

No, it was 5th with a 4.9 in August 2020.

Take a look for yourself.

No, they are not ignoring and through the MRC have protested. But there Is no alternative.

Most agency buys are either from out of market or done by media buyers who may never have heard most of the local stations. It is all “cost per point” and that is it.

And they buy multi-book averages, often looking at 6 to 8 books and skipping December and Christmas books.

Thanks for the info, jt99.

Indeed, a very good performance for Rock 95.5.

There is a lot of parity at the moment between stations in terms of A25 to 54 AQH share performance.

Research Director's article stated only about one share separated 12th place WTMX from the #1 station.

I got potato chips and tortilla chips the other day at Shop Rite what are you talking about lol

And now we know why they spent four years trying to get the Q101 branding back, efforts that probably accelerated once 95.5 flipped to mainstream/“neo-classic” rock.
