Will Beasley or Audacy jump into the Boston CHR fray now ?
I don't see it happening any more than seeing a flip of WXKS-FM (as mentioned earlier in the thread). As others pointed out, Amp was a failure. I don't see Audacy making that attempt again outside of possibly shifting the playlist of WWBX to aim more CHR/Top 40. But we won't see a non-Mix station make a flip, nor will we see a drastic change to the presentation of WWBX. Even predicting that is a stretch in my opinion.
Beasley? I would place the safe bet that they are more satisfied with WBQT, WBZ-FM, and WROR. So, that leaves WBOS. Something tells me that it's more out of the hopes that some on here have for flipping WBOS, and calling it a loss; than it is for seeing a need for a true competitor to WXKS-FM. So, what? Flip WBOS with CHR music, but who do they put on their air to challenge a legacy station like Kiss. In summary, I don't see Beasley getting in the game.
As for what happens next with the morning show? I see Costa as a transitional host. I predict that a new addition is added to the show, who the station feels will be able to take over the reigns when Costa retires or leaves. I give it approximately five years.
I'm on record for not being a fan of pop music or pop radio. Yet, I don't see Matty retiring to be the same as say Stern leaving terrestrial radio. The show (sans Matty) is still in tact. I don't see a mass exidous of listeners over this, instead of sacking the whole show for a new show (local or imported from another market).
