107.9 Sacramento

That was a great morning with Dusty Morgan as he launched K108 In 1974, 48 years ago with the song "Get it on" by Chase followed by TSOP, The Sound of Philadelphia By MSFB. I have an aircheck from that morning buried somewhere, recorded on an 8 track that morning in my storage locker.

How would you do that if you were running dummy call letters to throw off competitors and stunting?
Quite the valid point, Michael.

It would be interesting if they did move the Bull. I wonder how successful they would be at trying to grab some of the $4 million revenue and 260,000 cume from KNCI, especially with a Classic Country station in the market. The County life group is only so big and based on migration from the Bay Area and conservatives moving out of state, getting smaller.

Yeah, and I totally understand what you're saying (we've been having this conversation for a month or more). The only point where we really differ is how much weight iHeart gives to the existence of KNTY. I really don't think it's a consideration to them. If (big IF) it's Country, it's about clearing Bobby Bones and peeling off enough of KNCI's audience to generate enough revenue to get to a gross and net income number they like this year.

I know the people involved here pretty well (I've only been gone from iHeart Sac a bit over two years). If it was something as straightforward as a simulcast, they'd have just done it. There's no upside to stunting for that, and no upside to calling attention to "The New 107.9" if it's going to just end up being the old KSTE.

So they're doing something. Is it the return of The Bull to a full-market signal? Something else? No idea.

No matter what programming they decide upon for the New 107.9 it'll be the same old story, the same old song and dance!! You know like that Aerosmith song from the 1970's. Everything old is new again. If only Bill Drake was still here to program this station and frequency again.

Kiss-branded Hot AC? There is a lot of room between KYMX and KZZO musically these days. And KUDL does not look strong (6+ anyway... I know I know). How is Hot AC doing these days in nearby markets?

I’ve thought about that and iHeart owns the name. The only issue is the one that came up years ago, KISS FM sounds too much like KSFM and 102.5 has had those calls since 1974. Before that KSFM was on 96.9.

And do what with it?

Drake himself said it---he was lucky he launched Boss Radio when the Beatles, the Beach Boys and Motown were all having their moments.

Let's remember K-100, which despite Drake, Robert W. Morgan and The Real Don Steele, didn't do all that well. In the little bit of correspondence I had with Bill 20 or so years ago, he acknowledged that it was a lot harder trying to make radio magic with John Denver, Olivia Newton-John and Helen Reddy.

Someone just sent me the link to this thread, so I thought I'd login and post for the first time in 12 years to recommend they go Christian Polka. 1079TheHolyAccordion.com is available. Probably.

A Hot AC that is more recurrent and library friendly might be a good option for 107.9.

Perhaps we will see a station similar to Star 101.3 in San Francisco, or for that matter, the old Star 106.5!

Such a maneuver would certainly be fitting. KUDL replaced Star 106.5. Now, Star can be reborn on KUDL's former frequency. A "Star" moniker would also jibe nicely with the KSTE-FM calls.

Absolutely a magic time with the music and an Absolutely amazing time for the choices he made for the personalities that added to that time! And all of us were there to enjoy it all. Again an absolutely amazing time to have been there to experience the blending of it all. Let's not forget the contributions Ron Jacobs made to the magic.

And let's not forget the contributions of Tom Rounds in San Francisco, too. And Rounds got Jacobs and Casey to join him in the creation of AT40. Magic names, and two were good friends.
