Who would be your pick, and why?
For me, it's Ernie Myers, the longtime morning man at KOGO in the '70s, and KSDO in the '80s and into the '90s. The true greats always make it sound easy, and Myers didn't just have a knack for warmth and light banter. Like Arthur Godfrey, he was just somehow compelling even when he wasn't talking *about* much of anything. I can't think of many local talents who could have moved from 20-odd years of traditional DJ work into being the on-air ringmaster of an all-news station, but Myers sure pulled it off.
I don't know of any Ernie Myers airchecks, and I never had the foresight to record him myself, so I'm only going by memory. But unquestionably he was one of our giants.
