KTFM to Sports

94.1 in San Antonio is now All Sports. This is the first foray of Sports to a Full Signal in San Antonio. Should be interesting to see if a full signal FM Sports station gains traction in San Antonio.

Puke!

I prefer Energy over 96.1 Now, but didn't Energy have the second-highest listenership within the Alpha Media group? Also, how is it that We-94.5 is still around?

In the 6plus numbers (which are not the most important), KTFM trailed Jack, Tejano 95.7, KTSA and Norteno.

Does 103.3 maintain the simulcast, go full ESPN or do they introduce a new music format?

Long term it makes no sense for 103.3 and 94.1 to simulcast. The top of the hour id just mentioned "ESPN 1250". So maybe eventually Sports Star is on 94.1 and ESPN national goes to 1250? If so, would they flip 103.3 to something else?

Perhaps 1250 is eventually going away entirely or greatly reduced from a different site. There is a ton of big development around the 1250 daytime site. The nighttime site is co-located with KTSA and the Alpha studios.

I do wonder where this leaves Ticket 760. Competing against a translator in a sprawling market is one thing, but 94.1 is a very decent signal.

I just looked the daytime site up on the county's tax site. It isn't owned by Alpha. It's owned by some individuals in Austin (one of whom is an attorney, so he possibly isn't the actual owner). That ownership has been in place since at least 2013.

The adjacent parcel to the north and west is owned by Southside Independent School District.

Curious if maybe the Energy brand will move to 103.3.

Seems unlikely. Not that it couldn't happen, but, if Energy wasn't working on 94.1, there's no reason to believe it would work on 103.3. Plus, one would think, if that had been the plan, it would've either happened at the same time 94.1 flipped to sports or been publicized well in advance.

Could you please provide the breakdown of KTFM's target demo?
You mean the new target? Sports targets 25-54 men and all the individual subsets.

Probably not. Had this been the case, it would have been announced before the switch (or at the very least by now).

I'm actually surprised they didn't stick Norteño or Tejano on 94.1 given the success they both have as handicapped rimshot stations. If 103.3 doesn't get a new format, one has to assume that it will be paired with one of those rimshots.

Both pure norteña and Tejano reach very, very old demos. We're talking about 45+ for pure norteña and 55+ for Tejano.

I don't have access to the numbers, but are both stations exclusively reaching those demos? I find it hard to believe they're doing poorly in the 25-54, 18-49, or 18-34 demographics. The +6 numbers, while meaningless, are pretty encouraging given that both cover San Antonio pretty poorly (and I do mean very poorly)

At the very least, we should acknowledge that both stations' +6 numbers are putting KMYO and KZEP (both with much better coverage) to shame.

I’m also curious if the move to Sports on 94.1 will also bring the Cowboys over from 102.7 this fall?

I heard as part of the contract with the Cowboys, their games had to be on a groups best FM Signal. 94.1 covers Bexar quite well and the signal is good here in Canyon Lake (Comal County): however, 102.7 is a little stronger here.

I've heard something similar. "Best signal" might be a little subjective, but I don't see how anyone could successfully argue a C2 on the outskirts of town is better than a C1 right in the middle. The Cowboys also might be a little more willing to negotiate if no one else in an area wants their rights, but I can't imagine that happening in San Antonio.
