Art Sanders Exits KNWN (KOMO) After 20+ Years

I've been in Los Angeles for almost 6 years.

This morning I heard a recorded report on KNX that ended with "Art Sanders KNX Newsradio" and just about choked on my coffee.

We must have missed it on this board, but he left KNWN after over 20 years, in May.

KOMO's all news format started in September 2002, so he didn't quite make the anniversary of the format change. He had been a Fisher doing news for a couple of years prior to the switch, and stayed on. I think Manda Factor and Tom Hutlyer are the only remaining names on the roster that were there for the format launch. Brian Calvert and Rick Van Cise have left and come back and Corwin Haeck was an original Metro Traffic reporter but didn't move in house until a few years later.

He's one of the best news voices in the business. I assumed that he stayed for all these years on the evening shift by his preference - by talent alone he should have been in a drive time slot long ago.

The Seattle to LA radio talent pipeline is kind of a trip.
Gary Bryan is here.
So is Gary Hoffman, a KOMO original.
Shannon Farren who was briefly at KIRO as a reporter
Andy Harms did PM drive for many years on one of the Alt-Rock Stations ("this is music use you can use with Harms, on 98.7FM")
Now Art Sanders has settled in.

Art was one of the most distinctive voices on 1000 kHz. But L.A. and The Big Time were calling. And more often than not, it's your only chance in life to make that leap. From here, he could even go to the CBS network newscasts and be heard everywhere. The doors are all open from here. Congratulations Art!

The Price is Right forums indicate that Art was basically the pick to be Rod Roddy's successor in 2004 but the producers wanted to bring in a few more voices and Rich Fields edged him out.
The second week of games he announced were basically big announcer voice perfection. He was very impressive.

Six months of non-stop rain should want to make anyone who has a chance to move to California take advantage of that opportunity.

I agree with the others here, Art Sanders has a great radio voice and style of delivery.

I believe he is from Southern California originally, but has had an entire radio career elsewhere.
