This topic was brought up in another recent thread on this LA board but that thread was closed, however I want to address it
Why is Facebook important and sometimes critical to a station?
In my case.. we’ve got a small wildfire right outside one of the communities my radio station serves. We of course air updates on the radio but for many years, community news has been spread through social media.
There for some reason isn’t a listing for this wildfire on the interactive wildfire map at smoke.alaska.edu but I’ve spoken directly to the public information officers and posted the Info my personal Facebook page, tagging a dozen or more community members while also posting it on the stay on Facebook page.
Trust me, word spreads and people will read it even if they don’t hear it in the radio. This kind of urgent info spreads quick on Facebook.
