Nothing really new in the article, just pointing out that The CW will likely fall under Nexstar ownership, along with KTVX and KUCW. Also makes a big deal about how cheap Nexstar is and how that will result in The CW turning to more unscripted fare and international acquisitions. Can it be found somewhere else, because I'm blocked from reading it.
or another Ion or MyNetworkTV where new content is no more and it's pretty much a "Rerun farm".Nothing really new in the article, just pointing out that The CW will likely fall under Nexstar ownership, along with KTVX and KUCW. Skewing older might help The CW’s ratings, as those viewers are more likely to watch broadcast TV.
Until there is a formal announced deal, this title fits. Once, and if, the sale is announced, we will consider closing this thread and starting a new "They bought it" thread.I wish I could edit the thread title
That’s what I just shared yesterday.![]()
WSJ News Exclusive | Nexstar Nears Deal to Acquire Majority Control of CW Network
The U.S.’s biggest owner of local TV stations is looking to broaden the CW’s programming to cater to an older audience.www.wsj.com
Here is more on the talks between CW and Nexstar.
I personally would love to see more international acquisitions, but I am probably in a small minority.
Maybe to the NCW. Nexstar CW.Another question would be when Nexstar owns The CW, would the name be changed just like how WGN America changed names to NewsNation?
I thought we were close a week ago but we are apparently nowhere closer now.

I’m no longer convinced the CW will be moving to WMYT. In theory you think it would make sense but WCCB does have news and they’ve already lost ABC and Fox in the past. Plus Fox owns an independent (KICU) San Francisco and the MyNet remained on KRON instead of moving to KICU when it traded for that duopoly several years ago.Nexstar isn't eyeing CW to replace any of its Big 4 affiliations, which are still the company's cash cows because they drive retrans revenue.
Owning CW provides them a locked-in programming source for the former Tribune indies, as well as a subchannel they can pull away from other owners in smaller markets as contracts expire (if I'm Sinclair in Rochester or Syracuse, I wouldn't count on keeping CW on my .2s)
But that's all it is. Don't overthink it.
That is what will happen in West Michigan Sinclair will lose The CW which is .2 and WXSP will take The CW MyNet TV goes to Sinclair whenever that contract ends.Nexstar isn't eyeing CW to replace any of its Big 4 affiliations, which are still the company's cash cows because they drive retrans revenue.
