CW To Be Sold? Nexstar Among The Suitors.

Can it be found somewhere else, because I'm blocked from reading it.
Nothing really new in the article, just pointing out that The CW will likely fall under Nexstar ownership, along with KTVX and KUCW. Also makes a big deal about how cheap Nexstar is and how that will result in The CW turning to more unscripted fare and international acquisitions.

or another Ion or MyNetworkTV where new content is no more and it's pretty much a "Rerun farm".

I don't mind the international acquisitions.

Unscripted fare? Pass.

Another syndication service?

Ugh!

Until there is a formal announced deal, this title fits. Once, and if, the sale is announced, we will consider closing this thread and starting a new "They bought it" thread.

Another question would be when Nexstar owns The CW, would the name be changed just like how WGN America changed names to NewsNation?

Maybe to the NCW. Nexstar CW.

Another question would be regarding their stations should Nexstar ACTUALLY get The CW

I'm not going to ramble off 100 examples but I'll give a few

Here in Denver, they own current CW affiliate JWGN 2 & Fox affiliate KDVR 31

If Nexstar lands The CW, WHY would they want to hang on to KDVR 31 (Especially when Fox has expressed interest in buying it while the merger between Nexstar & Tribune was taking place)

Same with WXIN 59 in Indianapolis, IN

In Tampa, Nexstar owns NBC affiliate WFLA 8. If Nexstar lands The CW, WHY would they want to renew the NBC affiliation when their current contract is up (Or not consider buying their way out of it)

Here are a few other examples where this would also apply...

Indianapolis (WTTV 4 - CBS)

Las Vegas (KLAS 8 - CBS) (They host the Annual New Years Eve Show Nexstar currently syndicates to its stations)

Portland, OR (KOIN 6 - CBS)

Hartford, CT (WTNH 8 - ABC)

Grand Rapids, MI (WOOD 8 - NBC)

Afterall, it's not like The CW has a very good crop of O&O;s that are on par with those of Fox (Nor is The CW itself on par with Fox)

See my point here??

Nexstar isn't eyeing CW to replace any of its Big 4 affiliations, which are still the company's cash cows because they drive retrans revenue.

Owning CW provides them a locked-in programming source for the former Tribune indies, as well as a subchannel they can pull away from other owners in smaller markets as contracts expire (if I'm Sinclair in Rochester or Syracuse, I wouldn't count on keeping CW on my .2s)

But that's all it is. Don't overthink it.

In Des Moines Iowa Nextar owned WOI 5 (ABC) and KCWI 23 (CW) until 2019 when they sold it to Tenga Inc. Now Nextar only owns WHO 13 (NBC) since 2019.

I’m no longer convinced the CW will be moving to WMYT. In theory you think it would make sense but WCCB does have news and they’ve already lost ABC and Fox in the past. Plus Fox owns an independent (KICU) San Francisco and the MyNet remained on KRON instead of moving to KICU when it traded for that duopoly several years ago.

That is what will happen in West Michigan Sinclair will lose The CW which is .2 and WXSP will take The CW MyNet TV goes to Sinclair whenever that contract ends.

Here's what I think could happen....

In Tampa Bay, WTTA could pick up The CW, while sending MyNetworkTV to WTOG, while in Indianapolis, WTTV and WTTK could pick up The CW for the DT2 subchannel, while WISH-TV could become an Independent station, and in Hartford, WCTX could pick up The CW, while sending MyNetworkTV to WCCT, and that station could change it's call sign to WMCT.
