“Days of our Lives” to move the hourglass to Peacock

That's like certain boards used software to edit the shorten name for "Richard" (i.e., Thingy Van Dyke, "Dirty" Thingy Murdoch, Thingy Slater, Thingy Togo, etc.). Those boards did not care if it applied to someone's name.
I used to belong to a site where the software changed a certain word to hineyrumpus.

Even though they say the B words it was late 90s or early 2000s before they even said the word a** on days even though they said the B words probably since the 80's.
I remember "Maude" (70s) had SOB when the episode first aired and then the sound went out when they had the rerun. Or maybe it was the other way around.

I also remember Harry Anderson said it in the TV-movie "Harvey" after the V-chip ratings began and it got a TV-G.

Same for a UPN episode of "Clueless" when just the B-word was said, as an insult.

One board that I belong to will not accept the third part of the actor's name! That particular D-word is deemed offensive to lesbians! The girls' phys ed teacher and basketball coach at my high school was Miss Deichmann. Unfortunate is an understatement, especially since she was indeed lesbian.

This person has never heard of Peacock??? I wonder if they've even heard of the internet, or a know what a smartphone is. How is it possible to be this cut off from the world. 😲

I'm not sure I was watching a talk show the other day and they didn't know who this actor was because they never watched tv in their life or even owned a TV.

It looks like streaming is bringing new life back to the soap opera genre. The Australian soap "Neighbours", which was recently cancelled, has been renewed and picked up by Amazon. The producer of long cancelled NBC soap "Santa Barbara" is currently working on bringing it back online. That's what is so great about streaming...having so many more choices for what you like to watch, and viewing on YOUR schedule, and not having to set up recording ahead of time. I can't imagine life without it

To be clear, Neighbours will be on Freevee, not Prime Video, in the US from the second half of 2023, so it won't cost us any money to watch it.

I did watch some episodes of Neighbours for a time, but I prefer Home and Away because of its beautiful Australian scenery. It is unfortunate that current episodes of Home and Away are not available in the US. I do enjoy watching Emmerdale, a British soap that is set in rural Yorkshire. Emmerdale, which is available on BritBox, offers some beautiful scenery, though not as much as Home and Away does.

People in their 70s and older, from my experience, are the ones who are hit and miss. I know some who use Internet and e-mail but don't know the first thing about streaming. Others aren't on the Internet at all. There's always been a wide range of comfort when it comes to computers for the people that were already adults when computers started being more widely used in the mid to late 80s.

I didn't stream very often when it meant I had to go to the library.

However, it has been six years since I finally told the phone company I was leaving and suddenly they figured out to give me fast enough Internet to do that at home.

Sorry to bump up an old thread, but wanted to give an update on Days since the move to Peacock. It looks like we have an answer to the question whether or not it would be successful, and the answer is YES! Apparently it's #1 on Peacock.

Big unanswered questions there. Does it get that “rank” by counting cumulative viewing of the vastly higher number of episodes than most other originals? Are they getting advertisers to pony up enough to make it worth the investment?

In any case, streaming originals tend to have limited lifespans. A few seasons, with only a few getting beyond 3-4. Will an ancient soap defy that history? Maybe…but it’s not something I’d put money on.

This is a surprise that I will support! I hope this keeps the hourglass going, especially since DOOL is leaning towards a younger audience. Maybe it's introducing a new generation to the genre of soap opera.

The other question is ... what even is the competition? What other Peacock originals exist?

Looking at peacocktv.com, the top three "popular originals" are "Poker Face", "The Traitors", and "Best Man: The Final Chapters." I'm not exceptionally tuned into the zeitgeist, but none of those sound familiar to me.
