WDXI 1310 AM (Jackson) Off The Air

This is not a negative comment, but I do not believe this transaction has any significance at all. It is just moving some things around. Nothing wrong with it. I'm just saying this really isn't big news. Best of luck to them all!

I know it's just internal housekeeping as it were. Kerby and Donald are both older than Christine, and this involves Kerby's family getting everything in place in Pennsylvania. I don't expect them to do anything with Kentucky or Tennessee since there are 2 others involved. I'd be surprised if there isn't already a plan in place for this area, since they obviously have an active hand in daily operations here with Christine.

I don't think it's been mentioned here, but WBFG got a modification to move to a new tower closer to Jackson.

It looks like the WBFG modification coordinates are for a tower currently used for cellular, located about a mile from Cedar Grove.

By the way ... WDXI AM has been off again for a few days. The FM translator at 103.5 is still on.

It's interesting to me they use the same "Kool 103" jingles on WDXI AM and 103.5 FM that are used on their other oldies FM at 103.1, which is "Kool 103" and programmed separately.

WDXI AM is celebrating its 74th birthday this year, as the station signed on October 31, 1948.

1310/103.5 Leans more toward 60's and early 70's oldies while 103.1 leans toward 70's and 80's oldies. But it looks like it would at least make sense to have a different name for each.

This would almost make sense if these two stations cross-referenced each other, as in "you can hear this other program over on our sister station," but since they both use the same name, it might still be confusing for listeners.

I guess it was just temporary, because the AM was back on last week.

With that said, I noticed an issue with the FM translator at 103.5 about two weeks ago. They were missing a channel, or it was out of phase or something, as some song lyrics were missing from the FM that were fine on the AM. I was switching back and forth in the car as I was out and about on a Sunday afternoon. The AM sounded much better.

Probably trying to play a single-channel from stereo over BOTH channels, if that makes any sense. Many of the early Beatles songs were in fake stereo, with vocals in one channel, and instrumentation in the other. Probably great if you sing karaoke, but not so great for everyone else. I have heard such "stereo" myself, lately.

I don't know what's happening but 103.1 has been off since at least Christmas Eve. But 1310 and 103.5 are still on.
I noticed the same thing. It looks like 103.5 is on the 103.1 tower, which is south of Jackson.

Several weeks ago, I drove by the station, as I had some time to kill. As you can see from the pic, the place looks abandoned. The parking lot entrance where the pic was taken was blocked off with orange cones.

kool103.com is also down.

I believe Gerald lives in Savannah. Part of me wonders if they are running things from Savannah now to be closer to their dad and watch expenses. They would really only need an address in Jackson. I also wonder what they will do with the rest of the AM property now that they're down to one tower instead of four.

103.1 is back on today. I also think it would be better to simulcast 103.5 with 103.1 because there's not a lot of difference in them anyway other than 103.5 leans more toward the 60s while 103.1 leans towards 70s and 80s.

Why? Theyre on the same tower.. you gain nothing by doing that

Thanks to 103.5 being 250 watts and south of Jackson, there are areas in Jackson where 103.5 WRBO can be heard instead. WRBO is licensed to Como, Mississippi, and serves the Memphis metro area.
