KCNN 97.7 "Canyon Country" Benson, AZ
Dec. 1 new owner switch to current country format.

After listening for the past half hour, I wouldn't say KCNN has a current country (as in new country) format based upon hearing past hits by Reba McIntyre and Faith Hill. However, they definitely have a more up-to-date playlist and overall sound. 9pm on-the-hour-ID went like this: "Cochise County's Legendary Country station for over 40 years, KCNN Benson-Sierra Vista". This was followed by CBS News and Arizona News Radio. I think they sound really good. Still streaming here: The Cave - KAVV

Knowing Tom Trolland, I wonder if he's moved the studio to Sierra vista and put on a WW1 format

Just heard Luke Combs' "Beer Never Broke My Heart," from 2019, followed by Chris Stapleton's "You Should Probably Leave," from this summer, which is still a recurrent at current country stations, and Dierks Bentley's 2003 "What Was I Thinkin'." This is not a "legendary" -- as in "classic" -- country station at all. I haven't heard any currents yet, but would be surprised if some current hits are in the playlist. Gold at hit country radio can go all the way back to the late '80s, so the Bentley track is not surprising to hear.

Guess I'm the only one that liked the really old stuff, the "Classic Country" Oh well, always have YouTube, and my CDs! Red Rock Media from St. George, UT bought it. The sale was under way before Paul Lotsof passed away on August 23rd.

the discussion and "process" was but not the actual sale.. i dont think a take over/lma or sale was agreed upon before lotsoff died

Different company. The Redrock Broadcasting in St. George is owned by Craig Hanson and is the former Simmons Media.

KAVV was purchased by Tom Troland's Redrock Media Group LLC. Troland has previously owned stations across Arizona, Hawaii, and elsewhere, most recently under the Desert Explorer Communication name which owned 103.5 KPGX Navajo Mountain UT originally in partnership with former Sierra H Broadcasting Phoenix General Manager Michael Mallace. He previously used the Redrock Media Group name for his cluster in Grand Junction, CO before selling in 2018.

The station's Wikipedia page is outdated. It is as if the recent change to KCNN, Canyon Country never happened. Also, its current affiliation is CBS News Radio, as indicated by the top-of-the-hour newscast that I listened to at 7:00 am.
The new KCNN has zero presence on the internet so far. The KAVV website is still up and running, but no redirect to a new site, or even an "under construction" page. The call letters always make me think of the cable news network. I would have come up with something different.

KNYN and KCYN would have been better, but both are taken. I know today's listener doesn't care about call letters much, but I still wonder if anyone in the station's new ownership even thought twice about putting the potentially divisive "CNN" in KAVV's new call. Of course, we may be overthinking this. There's a quite successful classic rock station in southwest Connecticut with the WFOX call and I doubt that progressive-leaning classic rock fans avoid it because they associate those letters with Fox News Channel.

Two things.. you are overthinking things, i think.. and im sure tom Trolland thought about it. Ive known him as an operator for years and met him at his old CO stations.. hes a pretty smart/shrewd operator.

My thoughts exactly.

thats because Lotsoff controlled the website.. and id bet no one else has access to it.

Right, I found several platforms to listen online, Simple Radio, and Radio.net. Of course they are still set up as KAVV. However, the stream on the KAVV website takes you to Streema, and page not found. Same thing with the link provided by RadioBill.

The Streema page works fine for me, I'm listening now - perhaps it's your browser or computer.

In any case, this station has had a "controversial" past and hopefully it can move on.

I think they might be better off with playing pre-2K Country music. Within KCNN's signal range are 3 other competing stations for Country, KIIM, KWCD (both focusing on newer Country), and KHIL with a wide range of Classic Country. The previous KAVV was a good choice skewing older, and was able to offer what the other competition didn't. As well as being very local, doing what is almost unheard of these days...live, local jocks all day. and night.
