They preempted that for this?

60 minutes is always shown in its entirety regardless of how long the football game goes

CBS has been known to have up to 3 East/central feeds depending on when the late game ends especially during single header weeks. One for affiliates who had only the early game and possibly 2 different feeds for the late games.
Week 12 there were 3 separate CBS feeds for prime time due to games running late and unlike DH weeks there is no bonus coverage to line up the network.

The NFL is about to get preempted by the World Cup on Fox.

Never thought I'd see the day that the World Cup would preempt the NFL.

What overflow goes to FS1? Who's contract takes precedence here.

IS this just an overrun or replacing a full NFL game?

They just made the 1 pm cutoff.
My suspicion would be...Fox is simply carrying the international feed for WC (an event held every four years...) and there would have been one heck of a contracts problem had they not been able to take the post-match WC coverage (the trophy/medal presentations...) over to FS1.

Since it didn't happen, I guess there's nothing more to write about, but...

WABC and WPVI are not NBC affiliates. And it was a network special report. It’s not as if the managers at either station sat around debating whether to take the network news report.

Which wasn't local news as affiliates in ET/CT didn't bother doing, although affiliates were given the option to air a news update during halftime of PHX/DEN.
I wouldn’t have bothered with that at whatever ludicrous hour the games were supposed to end, let alone the chance of overrun. Absolutely no point to it.

There used to be poster here named WheelRob who obsessed over Wheel pre-emptions, thought them a sinister plot hatched by Jeopardy! I wonder what happened to him....
I didn't watch the whole thing, but when I discovered Zelenskyy pre-empted the first nine minutes of "The Price Is Right", I checked and it appeared "Jeopardy" did air. It is on two stations where I live, one at 7 and one at 7:30.
