Is this the end of the line? Not sure. But they need to pull the plug for now and have their lawyer plead and beg to the FCC.

Purdue University forgot to click the file now button after preparing their renewal several years ago. This resulted in WBAA broadcasting with no FCC license for four years. Their lawyer was able to get the FCC to grant their renewal late and without a fine. The school then smeared the FCC in a national news story blaming the commission for their own mistake.

I'm sure a lawyer will get involved, but this was over 3 years of broadcasting in violation of an STA, plus late renewals. I don't know, but this doesn't bode well.

I understand what you are saying. But broadcasting without an FCC license for 4 years might be even a bigger problem. A lawyer was able to get the deleted WBAA call letters reinstated and the late filed renewal granted with no fine.

I'm surprised the Commission put up with his crap this long. Anyone who tried to salvage these stations would be in for a financial and life-shortening battle.

KYTE definitely dropped the ball many times by not keeping up with their FCC filings. So let's say the KYTE license is gone. Is KIEV-LP's interference problem solved? Nope. The FCC will put the frequency in the next FM auction which the Audio Division has told me will be this year. You can bet the next licensee will build the monster on the mountain closer to Salem and interference to the LPFM will be worse.

People are building low power FM's that are completely encircled within the distant listening contours of high power stations.

I don't see how. Any closer to Salem would be too close to KKCW 103.3!

One can only hope. LP's are considered secondary service. LPFM's must accept any interference from (real) full class stations.

'But, we're going to rake in dozens of listeners with our flea-power signal and show corporate radio how it's done!'

They can come up to 3km closer to KKCW under §73.215 as long as they can propose a DA or reduced power to protect them.

KIEV-LP has a huge foothill effect area. Gets me wondering where they were expecting to be heard when they claim they are being trampled with interference.

The parting out of the station starts. An NCE FM in Hebo OR just north of Newport requested and was granted the KYTE callsign today.

Lying about operating from one tower and actually operating from another isn't cool. Now with the entire cluster in deep trouble, could this mean several more AMs/FMs being turned off, possibly even having their licenses revoked?

I bet 102.7 comes back soon as another religious outlet. Whether AFR, VCY, an EMF, or even Positive Life Radio expanding from their new 104.5 PDX/90.5 Astoria.

Looks like he was trying some bad form of kabuki theater with the whole generator switch-o, change-o with the Commission. Last time I checked, there was plenty of utility power on Bald Mt. Owner's like this give radio a bad name.

I would like for someone to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the bank foreclosure would affect the licenses. However, all of the remaining licenses are still pending renewal, and I would say the FCC would take a dim view on granting a full term renewal with these sorts of problems going on. The bank could seize his property and lock him out, effectively shutting him down. Realistically, you have to wonder how bad things really are there. He says he wants to get an FCC attorney, but he also claimed he couldn't get a local attorney to represent him in the foreclosure. Last I checked, attorneys want to get paid for their work. We'll see.
