XEWW (Mighty 690) Rosarito Cross Border Controversy

Another radio that has been silent and sleeping for several weeks is XEPE-AM, I would not doubt that it was the CFE electricity to suspend the service.

Those are all Bonilla stations, and he is under investigation by the current mayor of Tijuana for fraud and corruption while mayor and, previously, while BCN governor.

1700 is kinda fuzzy - always. As has been discussed here, the wavelength at 1700 is quite different from that of a much lower frequency. While at "The Walrus" -and we were having transmitter issues, we would put the FM signal on 1700. We were hearing from San Francisco(!). But for those of us in SoCal, 1700's daytime signal is really crummy.

That regulation is why Wolfman Jack recorded shows in real-time in Los Angeles and had them bussed across the border to the XERB transmitter for playback the following day,

So, David, when live studios were established for Mexican stations in San Diego in the 80s , was that ISDN? Is microwave the issue here? And why in the world would the Chinese send a microwave signal from L.A. to Tijuana when they could use whatever computer technology broadcasters use for remote broadcasting today?
I think it was the FCC decision to allow Fox to microwave or otherwise provide Live programming to XETV for broadcast into the US that changed everything. I think It was a good decision for everybody...

It was XEROK in the 70s...they got special waiver from the FCC to do a STL shot from the El Paso studios to the xmtr site. It too easy recording the show an hour early then taking the tape across the border

Only XEROX was recording a day ahead and taking the tapes across.
I think XEROX was making copies of the XEROK tapes instead....

XEPE 1700 AM is simulcasting XEC Radio Enciso 1310 AM owned by Media Sports de México S.A. de C.V.

Radiopolis/Televisa Radio would sold back XEWW 690 AM and mark of the return of W Radio in the San Diego Tijuana Metropolitan area

Any ideas if Grupo Radiorama might be an option to buy XESPN 800 AM and XEBG 1550 AM and Radiopolis/Televisa Radio might be another option to buy XHMORE 98.9 FM?

Radiopolis is now jointly owned by Grupo Prisa from Spain and the Alemán familiy with Televisa closing on its sale of a 50% interest in mid-2020.

It's good that XEC(XESPN) is simulcasting with 1700 as 1310's signal in North County is blocked by Oceanside's KKSM 1320

It doesn't surprise me that you can hear a strong signal from XEPE at night in the Bay Area...it wouldn't dought that it can be heard in Canada now and again! Skywave at the high end of the MW/AM band is generally very good with reasonable power and lack of interference. Except for presumably some TIS stations, 1700 is essentially a clear channel here on the West coast. According to some information I read several years ago, XEPE uses a directional slope antenna beamed north with 10 kW xmitter power full time, with an ERP somewhere around 20 kW or so...Here in the SFV, the station's daytime signal is just barely detectable unless there's occasional mid-day skywave. Although the station's nightime skywave signal fades in and out quite abit, it can be quite strong, as much as 5 mV/m.

i can hear XEPE in Alaska, fairly regularly, as i recall

XEWW 690 AM would flip back to a Spanish language News/Talk Radio as W Radio if Grupo Prisa would sold back to XEWW 690 AM

Grupo Radiorama would of buy XESPN 800 AM and XEBG 1550 AM from Grupo Cadena that's another option

You agreed with my suggestions?

Bummer! I was hoping that XEWW would become the AM version of Willy 105.7, another automated jukebox of music continuing on, and on, and on, and on. I wonder what the lease rate is for 690 AM? Bonilla at one time wanted $20,000 a month for 105.7. Gee, can't imagine why no one jumped at that offer. (insert sarcasm).

Mega-dittos on the bummer. Probably the only place on the AM dial where I could hear Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, etc. continuously on a drive all the way from San Diego to Bakersfield.

That's not much more to lease a whole station than the base pay for a good general manager in that market. Seems cheap for a station that covers all but the very far North Country area of San Diego.
