From 50KW 24/7 to Deletion

With the former 50KW KDWN about to go dark, how many other 50KW 24/7’s have gone the same route? 1540 in Albany, NY is the only other one that comes to mind.

KDWN had already downgraded to 25 kw days and 7.5 kw nights.

KDWN and KXST arent being deleted yet...

Good point. They are just silent, but unless relocated the license will be cancelled eventually.

Their transmitter site property has been sold to make room for commercial and residential construction . 40 million is what Cumulus got for the land. Far more money than either of the stations are worth.

CINF and CINW in Montreal were both 50kW 24/7 when they were shut down in 2010:

Both facilities have seen been reused (one existing station moved to CINF’s frequency while CINW was reused by an upstart station).

Audacy...

Maybe KDWN could come back on if they find another site, perhaps further out into the desert. They’re going to lose all their listeners who can’t hear K268CS

The 60 dbu of the translator covers 1.95 million. The 25 kw daytime AM coves 2.2 million. Some of the 200,000 not covered by the translator are outside the metro survey area, so they don't matter.

In 2006 Beasley paid $17 million for this, plus $5 million for the land.

How about CKLM, Laval, Quebec? They were a French language top 40 station in the 60s and 70s. I used to get it down here in Boston at night. They were the WABC of French Canada.

So I guess it doesn’t matter if KDWN never goes back on. For the 200000 who can’t hear K268CS, there’s the Audacy app.

For decades, CJMS 1280 was the dominant Francophone Top 40 station in Montreal. CKLM was a rather bad top of the dial station.
