“Days of our Lives” to move the hourglass to Peacock

Poker Face is relatively new I believe, and benefitting from a big promotional push. There’s also, I think, Bel Air, but perhaps it’s not in a cycle of new episodes now.

The other question is ... what even is the competition? What other Peacock originals exist?

Looking at peacocktv.com, the top three "popular originals" are "Poker Face", "The Traitors", and "Best Man: The Final Chapters." I'm not exceptionally tuned into the zeitgeist, but none of those sound familiar to me.
Out of what you just mentioned the only one I see advertised a lot on NBC is Poker Face the other 2 I never heard of so idk what keeps those shows going.

NBC News at 1PM is a flop and an epic fail in the ratings they should bring back Days at 1PM as Days got better ratings than NBC News at 1PM.

Umm... NBC News Daily is actually growing in ratings, has beaten GMA3 several times (though GMA3 is still #1 overall over NBCND), and Days of our Lives is now Peacock's #1 show.

In fact, fans have followed enough that apparently, Robert Scott Wilson (Alex) told TVLine, Days of Our Lives is the number one Peacock show.

Your statement is completely misleading.

Remember in many markets NBCND and GMA3 don’t compete head to head in the same time slot so comparing their ratings and shares to see which is doing better in the ratings can be slightly misleading

Like in Des Moines GMA 3 airs at Noon and NBC News Daily airs at 2pm. It's like in the older days when some markets All My Children and Days of our Lives aired opposite each other it all depend where you lived as in Des Moines All My Children aired at Noon while Days of our Lives aired at 12:30pm until the news expanded to an hour and Days of our Lives moved to 1pm then Days of our Lives was on opposite of One Live To Live and As The World Turns while in other markets they were opposite All My Children and the last half of Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful.

Once more, profitability matters. Demos matter. The cost of the programming matters. NBC News is a better match for many of its affiliates. It is still new and showing some promise for being a better solution for the schedule.

The sands will continue to flow through 2025 and its 60th anniversary…
Although if it proves to be successful on Peacock, the soap opera genre could be brought back to life in streaming. Either way, DOOL is a case study for CBS & ABC who (If DOOL does prove to be successful on Peacock) would likely feel forced to move their remaining soaps to Paramount+ & Hulu respectively with Pluto TV being used to launch original soap operas and/or reboots of old, long gones ones from the bowels of TV history

Isn’t Y&R the highest rated program in daytime? Would CBS want to stop that.

If this were 20 years - NO WAY !! 15 years ago - MAYBE (If the ratings were bad enough). 10 years ago - HELL YEAH (If the ratings were as bad as those of GL & ATWT when CBS cancelled them)

Plus, they would just simply move it Paramount+ as a soaps channel They wouldn't get rid of it completely (Pluto TV soaps would be transformed to be the launching pad for the rebooting of long forgotten soaps like those from the Proctor & Gamble library)

What would they replace it with?? Either a 4rd hour of CBS This Morning or a simulcast of whatever is on the CBS News app

But back to NBC - What's killing NBCND is the fact it's going up against offerings from NBCNN, CNBC & MSNBC. NBCND is probably just one too many

Did u see the local affiliates adding 9am newscasts? It will be less likely to have a 3rd hour CBS Mornings

Technically The Price Is Right is usually the highest rated network daytime program with Y&R usually following it at # 2 in daytime ratings. Remember these days there is more of a focus on net profit than ratings and even gross ad revenue. AMC and OLTL were less cancelled because of poor ratings and more because ABC thought they could replace them with shows like The Chew and now GMA3 that cost a fraction of what it costs to produce a soap. The Talk and Let’s Make A Deal ratings have been lower than ATWT and GL but because they are so much cheaper to produce than soaps CBS is probably ahead from a net profit perspective on the shows. Someday CBS might make the same decision to replace Y&R with lower cost programming.

Actually CBS O&O KCNC 4 now offers a 9:00 AM newscast but CBS has yet to offer a 3rd of its morning show (I was just saying it could do that or offer a simulcast of whatever is streaming on the CBS News app if they were to move Y&R & B&B to Paramount+)

Pluto TV soaps said when they launched it more soaps were planned but only Young & the Restless and Bold & the beautiful have aired. General Hospital would most likely go to Hulu but I don't see that one going anywhere anytime soon.

Young & the Restless I don't see going anywhere either but could see them cancelling Bold and the Beautiful as local affiliates expand their local news to an hour as both ABC expanded their news to an hour in most markets after Port Charles ended and NBC affiliates explanded to an hour newscast in some markets as well some I the 90's and some the 2000's after Passions ended.
