99 X Is Back

In the morning they have music videos. There's also a fulltime network, CMT Music (formerly VH1 Pure Country)
 
Anyone want to place bets on how long this will last.

The words "passion project" kind of worry me. Yes, WNNX got a bump in the latest book, but how long will the audience stick around?

This is a very good move. I am glad she’s back. I figure there will be multiple days (like there has been so far) where we will hear “best of” all morning due to the busy schedules of these two. Any word on any other returning hosts? I was disappointed to hear in an earlier post that Steve Craig would not be coming back but I find it ironic that he left the River at the same time as the resurrection of 99X.

I don’t know that he won’t be coming to 99X. What I heard was he left The River became they couldn’t come to terms on a contract, and he was tired of getting up for mornings. Also heard he “had other things to do“ and wasn’t planning to join 99X. But who knows? After being off the radio for 6 months, he could have a change of heart.
 
This is a big deal for all of us still hustling in terrestrial radio. We in the small markets have it different (better?) than large market radio, but radio's success at that level of visibility trickles down noticeably. Just in the PR part of it - when was the last time Rodney was this excited about AM/FM?

I hope it succeeds. And if it doesn't succeed, I hope they don't pull the plug within a year. That would be worse for radio's image than had they never tried it.

Supposedly SouthSide Steve had been talking to three radio stations in the market, but that was right after he was let go. He mentioned this at a Departure (Journey tribute band) concert. He regretted being out of a job, but understood the heritage of 99X like he does 96 Rock.
Besides River and the two country stations, not sure where he'd be a good fit, though.

IIRC South Side was part of Rhubarb Jones’s show towards the end of Eagle 106.7 county days. IMHO Citadel got stupid and decided 101.5 did not need a flanker guaranteeing 94.9’s success, but that’s another topic. I only heard the show a few times but it was LOL.

Also the streaming sound is changed. When they relaunch the station a couple of months ago it sounding great but I miss a bit processed sound. What are they using for processing?

How do you know that the sound that you do not like is caused by the Voltair rather than simply a processing setting you don't find appealing?
 
I wonder how much longer Cumulus will keep 99X on 98.9.

They have two streams. The 100.5 stream. which has more of a processed sound. And the WWWQ HD2 stream which does not. The one on the website points to the WWWQ HD2 stream, or was for awhile.
