99 X Is Back

It'd also be interesting to know about the environment at Cox Radio since the Coxes sold out to Apollo.

Can't speak for the radio side, but FTV Live has reported morale has gone down the crapper at Cox's TV side since Apollo took over. The radio stations don't sound much, if any, different than they did before the change, but you can’t always tell what's going on behind the scenes.

Morale is down at every television station in America

and that is one reason out of a million why they're more alternative than alternative is. :p
When 99X first came on the air in 1992, Album 88 said "well, we'll just go MORE alternative!"

I believe I would have had the company name (Cox) changed after I got the cash as part of the deal. These leveraged deals don't always work out and all of a sudden your last name is tied up in a big old bankruptcy not a good thing

The new company was originally going to be called "Terrier Media" until it agreed to acquire the Cox radio stations outside of Dayton. Keeping the Cox name likely had some monetary value for the new company as it was able to build upon the reputation it already had.

I wonder if there is a time limit on Apollo's use of the name.

Oh, and Terrier Media???

I guess there's not any anagrams you can make from Cox (compare Gannett and Tegna)

It’s been no secret that Apollo has been trying to sell the Cox radio stations. There don’t seem to be buyers for entire radio station groups. But last week, the Cox radio cluster in the Houston market was sold to Urban One. And that cluster includes 2 top-rated stations. I wonder whether more individual markets will be sold.

From what I understand, all of the radio markets except Atlanta and Dayton are for sale.

The question, of course, is who might be interested in buying them. Hardly anyone is buying radio stations these days, even individual clusters. I suppose a semi-local company, like Tyler, could be interested in Tulsa, but, unless there are several of those, Cox is going to have to hope Urban One, Beasley, and/or Hubbard will come to the table.

Are there any Christian broadcasting organizations other than EMF who might be looking to take advantage of their cash flow and snap up a few more stations, especially if the only commercial entities interested are submitting lowball offers?

I noticed 99X has updated their playlist, I see a lot more stuff that is aligned with 91X's classic alternative rotations from the 80s-2000's, plus a few more 00s-10s stuff. That's neat. Though playing one of Fall Out Boy's poppiest hits (Young and Menance, a rather controversial song with fans due to the style), may not satisfy many older listeners haha

Feels like the playlist has shifted a little bit after Axel left. They weren’t playing fall out boy or silversun pickups while Axel was there

Reading on 99X’s Instagram page that another original voice will be coming back to 99X and will be revealed Wednesday at 7:20 on the Morning X. Any idea who it will be?

There are references to "All good things floating downstream." Most assuredly it is Steve Craig "floating downstream" from 97.1 The River.
