KLove expands in NH-ME seacoast

Because the stations reach into Essex County etc., will put here--Seacoast Oldies has found Religion

I wonder how Jeff Lawrence is going to make out in this deal

Pete Falconi & Company cashing out again ( WNPB and the FM translator was sold to Bloomberg a while back)

EMF is the world’s largest contemporary Christian music network, owns and operates over 1000 radio stations in all 50 states and is in the top 10 US based audio streaming companies. This country was founded in Trusting God and having faith, and EMF helps people focus on peace, joy and inspiration. The need to reaffirm this message is no greater than now with all the division and despair. It is the fastest growing radio company, totally supported by listeners. The listener base continues to grow and, therefore, EMF will continue to buy radio stations to further spread the love of God. People need and want this programming. EMF is the most successful radio company today.

We were not founded as a theocracy, but, yes, EMF has a very loyal base. The rise of "nones" may cause an issue eventually

But EMF promotes one faith in particular. As gr8oldies said, this is not a theocracy. It's bad enough that belief in a certain set of teachings from two volumes (the Jewish Old Testament and the revisionist New Testament) is embedded in our nation's seminal documents, but those documents make no allowance for skeptics and complete nonbelievers. Show me a Wiccan or an atheist or a Hindu who feels comforted or supported by EMF's programming. Do such people even exist? That EMF continues to enjoy the benefits of a tax-free, raging river of cash to fund its mission is incomprehensible, and I'd say that even if EMF were promoting Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Wicca or any other non-Christian set of beliefs.

EMF is not comparable to other nonprofits like the Red Cross and the YMCA, both of which are, despite their names, totally non-secular and provide almost universally appreciated services to Americans of every religious or non-religious persuasion. (I say "almost" because members of some faiths might not appreciate services based on the science of medicine.)

You mean like the Red Cross or YMCA….or any number of colleges and universities?

Were you absent in school when they explained the constitution?

Their tax exempt status as a charity or other organization entitled to tax relief is more IRS tax code than constitutional law IMHO.

The constitutional thing about there being freedom to practice ones religion, or not practice or even not have one is one thing, there being no "state" religion like the Church of England is another.

That whole separation of church and state is a bit murky and carried too far by some.

But then again a municipality allowing the alarm 4 times a day to let participants of a certain religion that it is time to pray is troublesome to me.

In my home town the Catholic church rang bells that resonated all over town began around 6am 7 days a week.

I need to clarify that the town modified a ordinance to allow it

They amended the noise violation exemption related to sounds associated with religious worship.

Well that is all fine and dandy, so long as the other houses of worship can do something similar, including the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

we now return to our normal discussions, already in progress.

How much interference is there between WXEX and WDER? From Wikipedia, looks as if WDER went on the air in 1972 before WXEX in 1975. Did WDER's predecessor (WSLE) make an effort to object to any new license on 92.1? Did Phoenix Media/Communications Group make any effort to move one of those to another frequency when they owned both signals?

The it’s tax code is based on the constitutional provision that government cannot restrict or interfere with the practice/excercise of religion, organized or not.

“Taxing” religious organizations is the equivalent of interfering with the excercise the church and its mission.

Wow, sorry to hear this. WXEX-AM-FM had a fairly deep oldies playlist. The station would go back to the 1970s more than most Classic Hits stations. And it would sometimes play a softer song, from artists like America, Cat Stevens, James Taylor and Carly Simon that more uptempo stations would avoid.

The Portsmouth-Rochester-Dover-NH Seacoast does have another Classic Hits station, The Shark 102.1 and 105.3. But WSHK is really a cross between Classic Hits and Classic Rock. Rarely is a dance/Motown/R&B song or a softer pop hit is heard.

Lets buy alot of radio stations and simulcast on every station . Bad for Radio jobs and bad for radio listeners .
Why is providing programming that a significant number of listeners like bad for listeners?

Of course, providing programming that continues to attract new listeners is great for listeners and radio. Consider your favorite radio stations. How much revenue do you spent in supporting advertisers on those stations? If the answer is little or none then you are contributing to the potential decline of that station and its programming. There are more than sufficient listeners to not only support EMF’s Christian programming, but allow it to keep expanding and buy new stations. Listeners pay for the programming they want.
