Announcers all over MLB are having trouble with the pace of the game, from what I've heard of Red Sox and other clubs' broadcasts, as well as network games. The familiar ruminations on baseball history, comments about the previous play or hit, anecdotes about players, etc., often sound rushed or are subject to frequent interruption because something is happening every 20 seconds rather than every 40. But baseball broadcasters of years past knew how to describe a fast-paced game, so there's no reason that today's can't adjust. Baseball still is a stop-and-go sport, after all. The announcers don't have to describe constant action for long stretches, as basketball and hockey announcers do.Is the pitch clock bringing any improvement to the radio broadcast ?
Have not listened this year.
Their current rank is totally salable. This is not a race where there is just one winner.. In big markets, the top 15, 20 even 25 stations can all do well.WROR-FM hasn't been top 5 25-54 in any of the 3 books so far this year, and has only been top 5 18-49 once. Is the station in need of a shakeup?
Can you elaborate? I see this post as ambiguous in meaning. If it's comical that music stations are tied with a sports talk station, the other sports talk station is number one in this ranking.101.7 and 92.9 tied with 93.7? LOL. Wow.
Oh sorry, I just never thought I’d see the day ‘EEI was hanging out around somewhat constant lower ranked stations like 92.9 and 101.7. Although I’m sure it’s probably laughing all the way to the bank compared to those two.Can you elaborate? I see this post as ambiguous in meaning. WEEI needs something—shakeup, new format, and/or new moniker and dial position????
Thanks for the clarification. Your original post is one of those times where I could have misinterpreted you (which I did) and went down the wrong rabbit hole.Oh sorry, I just never thought I’d see the day ‘EEI was hanging out around somewhat constant lower ranked stations like 92.9 and 101.7. I remember when ‘BZ-FM launched and EEI seemed untouchable. I know a lot has to do with the teams and the seasons, but Beasley was obviously able to out maneuver Audacy in Boston — in what’s normally one of Audacy’s best executed and most successful formats (sports). 98.5 is just a beast.
And what was such a joke, was Sports Hub was a CBS creation. CBS did not play when it came to sports. They knew what they were doing and executed the format better than almost anyone else, and were one of the first big companies that pushed the format to FM. I'd think almost any station would take a sports competitor from CBS as a very serious threat, but obviously not in Boston, where Entercom fumbled the whole WEEI reaction...somewhat surprising, since the Fields and Entercom pre-CBS merger were quite savvy operators and one of the earlier proponents of moving spoken word formats to FM. Once Sports Hub launched, Mike should have been torched and made WEEI-FM ASAP. Not several years later. It was obvious then FM was the future for sports formats at that time. Thanks for the clarification. To your latter point in this post, WEEI laughed off The Sports Hub so much, it stayed on AM for another three years. People were clamming for it to move to FM after The Sports Hub was announced. But in hindsight, before CBS blew up WBCN (to my personal dismay) for The Sports Hub, there was the rumor of WBOS going Sports Talk, which amounted to nothing, and (I theorize) WEEI thinking nobody could challenge them for dominance.
The error is to think this is like an election, where there is only one winner. WEEI can also make good money with its ratings. In Men 25 to 54 in weekday mornings, middays and afternoons, 98.5 commands 3x to 4x the AQH share of WEEI.
The Sports Hub is literally wiping the floor clean with WEEI.
