Oh, interesting. KXXF couldn’t move any closer to HOUSTON? Wasn’t KTWL downgrading to 8000 watts?

EMF doe not buy "markets". They buy "populations" as they are listener supported.

Presumably 105.3 will become K-Love, as EMF already serves B/PM with Air1 on KHJK 103.7. The K-Love station list shows 98.1 serving Beaumont, which is a translator. Oddly, Radio-Locator has this as an AFR outlet with KZFT as the parent. Perhaps KZFT has K-Love on an HD-2 which is what is rebroadcast on 98.1?

As EMF can't use the K-Love branding in Houston due to that being held by Univision here, it raises the question as to how close to Houston a K-Love branded station could operate? Who claims Chambers county, which is almost completely in the KXXF 60dBu?

It's possible that the use of K-Love in Houston was worked out at the same time that Univision agreed for EMF to use it in Los Angeles.

Secondly, Chambers County, where community of license Winnie is located, is part of the Houston-Galveston market according to Nielsen. However, Winnie is on the far eastern edge of Chambers county and the station actually broadcasts from a tower in Jefferson County. I believe the "home market" for KXXF is actually Beaumont-Port Arthur, despite Winnie being technically in another market's county.

And Univision does not use the K-Love name in Houston. They are just holding it.

Too bad, the playlist looks wider than most classic hits stations. Guess this is one reason why K-LOVE had their massive fundraiser a few weeks ago..."we just need 100 more people at $100 a month!! Somebody's going to win a $3000 gas card! GET TO THE PHONES!! (cue cheering and clapping from DJs)"
So they can buy out more secular FMs with their satellite CCM format, with little to no local presence in the towns they serve. Meanwhile, Winnie TX, pop. 3000, is losing its local radio station, with local personalities. Will K-LOVE interrupt its regular programming for hurricane/tornado alerts? How about an explosion at a nearby refinery?

This is why I give to regional/local CCM stations only. They provide a service to the local and regional community, appearing at various events and doing fundraisers to benefit the communities they serve. Yes, Positive Life (in eastern WA/Portland OR) has expanded a little bit, but I don't recall them buying out 100KW FMs from secular radio operators.

Wasn't WTSS Buffalo in the top 10?

EMF has an extensive outreach program and 24/7 live counselor and advisers.

Winnie is a far suburb of Houston, and is totally served by the many Houston full signal stations on FM and by many of the AMs, too. Because it is wedged between Beaumont/Port Arthur/Orange and Houston, there is no way a commercial station can be of any real service today to such towns.

The model for OTA radio in the future is the one that works in Europe, Latin America and much of the world... national or regional networks with top talent... just like TV has done right from its beginning and radio did for its first several decades.

Yes, but it appears that the seller is moving out of markets where they don't have a sizable cluster.

KXXF’s owner died in 2019. It was a matter of when the station would be sold, not if.

We know that, but are they not going to enforce their “right” to the branding? We’ve all gone under the assumption that the name was keeping K-Love out of the market, thus my earlier question about how far that branding “exclusivity” extends outside the immediate Houston metro area.

And so much for K-Love not competing against KSBJ as the KXXF signal covers much the same area as KSBJ simulcast KHIH.

EMF buying KRBE would be a 10 on the Richter Scale earthquake in Houston radio, although the odds are still against that.

The Lake Charles K Love signal as a C3 puts 60dbu towards Orange and feeds the 3 Beaumont translators. Depending on how strong the 105.3 signal is in Beaumont and Port Arthur I would assume EMF will keep those translators. The fcc data maps show that 105.3 and Winne and 89.1 Port Sulfer-Lake Charles almost compliment each other to provide continuous coveage. The 98.9 Translator serving Orange appears to fill the gap. If I remember correctly 88.1 KLBT once aired K Love before becoming locally produced. I read through the agreement that will allow K Love to program 105.3 before the sale closing but I see nothing about when KLOVE is expected to appear on KXXF.

I’m not super familiar with the translators coverage but 105.3 covers those areas really well.
