It seems that Houston's Tejano Party Station, KHTN, is still emulating the previous format, MusicRadio1300. As with the prior licensee, no paid spots are heard. I guess the rumored flip to News/Talk, providing viable competition to KLVI, is no longer in the mix.

Pretty sure you mean KHTW. And are they still branding as a Houston station?

With a license up in the air at the FCC after my filing, and the awful air sound that it has, no one wants to advertise on it.. It was news talk as KSET and couldn't compete against KLVI... The FCC is investigating several allegations right now raised against the operator of the station.
My lawsuit against the broker is pending and once it gets settled I'll have the station equipment and property back in my name and then go after the license.. Don't even know why he bothers to run it... It hadn't been in Houston's tejano station for a long time... It would never cover Houston anyway... And I had some advertisers... In fact helped one judge get elected because I ran his spots..

I don't think it's a matter of "no one wants to advertise on it." With the current, and the former licensee/operator, it's a matter of going out and soliciting advertisers. To my knowledge, the station hasn't aired paid content since KSET went off-the-air.

Nets/Talk or Sports are the only remaining viable formats on AM. Music is a non-starter. With FM, HD-FM, Satellite, and Streaming, no one wants to listen to the inferior sound of music on AM. Which begs the question, why do they continue to maintain the MusicRadio 1300 format? With no paid content. Something definitely doesn't add up.

It has NEVER been Houston's Tejano station, because (other than the last few months it has returned to MusicRadio 1300), it has been dark. A dark station fails to serve the public interest, convenience and necessity.

LOL all this fighting over an AM radio station... What is this, 1980?

No it's 2023... It's a radio station and it's worth money... Regardless of whether it's AM or FM... It serves the community.. If you want to help with the legal battle, I'd be glad to take any donations but I doubt if you will

No music on AM? So, being retired, I have time to do this nonsense. I scanned the dial for music stations on AM here in San Antonio. I found 12 good signals - 580, 680, 720, 810, 860, 1130, 1310, 1350, 1420, 1480, 1540 and 1580. Should these stations just sell the tower metal and grounding copper for scrap, then sell the land if they own it? Maybe, but they all seem to have advertisers - yeah a bunch are ambulance chasing lawyers, but that's true for FM and TV also. These stations are providing a public service, and maybe they are making a profit.

6 of those should have at least 1 FM translator and 2 others are on an HD2. I'm sure most of those stations have more listeners on FM or HD2 than on AM.

Which proves my point. As I mentioned above, a silent station doesn't serve the public interest, and following the conclusion of KSET, the station was perpetually silent. For years.

Where can I donate? I think there was a Go Fund Me up once but lost the link.

As for serving their communities I'm sure this shortwave station serves it's community well in Russia. Hey it's on the air at least since the late 1970's... UVB-76 - Wikipedia
Still on if you wanna check it's live feed on YouTube.

What is it that donors are being asked to give their money? Is "KLLS" a for profit entity or a not for profit? Is there an actual incorporated business here?

I have issues with private, supposedly for profit businesses asking for "donations". As far as I can tell, the 1300 station in Lumberton is not a charity or a non-comm operation.

We've seen the same "begging for money" on U.S. commercial shortwave stations, particularly WRMI and WBCQ, who appear to have inadequate revenue to cover operating expenses.

Why not raise capital by offering equity in the station for those who invest?

If I understand tax law correctly, for-profit companies have to treat donations as income for tax purposes.

Not trying to rip on your effort to reacquire the 1300 station (I wish you well) but I think there may be a sustainability problem here.
