XEWW (Mighty 690) Rosarito Cross Border Controversy

That's not much more to lease a whole station than the base pay for a good general manager in that market. Seems cheap for a station that covers all but the very far North Country area of San Diego.
If that is a cheap rate, do you happen to know why, or have an opinion as to why there's no interest from a U.S broadcaster in leasing that station?

Seems like leasing radio stations across the border is not as favorable as it used to be.

Mega-dittos on the bummer. Probably the only place on the AM dial where I could hear Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, etc. continuously on a drive all the way from San Diego to Bakersfield.
Although it's most likely not Justin Bieber or Ed Sheeran singing their songs, those copycats can sound darn close to the original. Don't worry, they had me fooled also, until I heard a horrendous cover of Billie Eilish. XEWW could have had some fun with this with liners like, "So-Cal and Baja's #1 Hit Music Station...for Cover Versions!", or "Can you believe (insert artist name) actually wanted us to pay them money to play their songs, well here at the Mighty 690...we have a better idea!".

Remember, the rights payment rules stations must follow are specific to and limited to each individual country. The Mexican stations being discussed pay to entities in Mexico that control artist, composer and label rights fees.

And the hit version of some songs may be very different in different nations. It's also not uncommon for an artist to have different songs become popular in other countries. In any case, no matter who does the song version, rights payments are the same.
