Hot and Mega

They currently own two stations in Dallas and two in Philadelphia.
Radio One’s two stations in DFW (KBFB/KZMJ) could become four if they were to buy Service Broadcasting KKDA/KRNB) whose owner is getting up there in years and might want to sell.

RO is in expansion mode, and not necessarily in African-American targeted formats, as witnessed by their pending acquisition of highly ranked Country and Classic Rock stations in Houston. SBS is also about to enter Houston (RO spin-off) but no word yet on any specific format, so they are expanding as well.
I know nothing of what you speak, but you should follow that source on all platforms...

Bookmarked!! Thanks! 👍😄

I don't understand how to use threads. Too confusing.

So, perhaps current owner Mediaco Holding was set up with the intention of selling WQHT and WBLS, and then dissolving?
A lot has changed in the media industry in the past four years since the company was formed. The investment group behind MediaCo was also responsible for the failed purchase of TEGNA. Emmis sold its minority stakes in MediaCo last year and the company also sold the billboard company it has purchased after WQHT/WBLS late last year.

RO is in expansion mode,

I've noticed, and even proposed the idea of a trade between Urban One and Audacy exactly one month ago:

It's managed as part of the NYC cluster. My view is the revenue 94.7 attracts is expendable in a cluster that bills over $100 million.

They can spin it off if it gets them another station in another market that fits their goals better. So perhaps a trade with Urban One.

How about that for wild speculation?

Why is Urban One in expansion mode? Because they just sold their stake in the MGM National Harbor outside of DC. That sale netted them $145 million. You can buy a lot of radio stations with that kind of cash. No debt.

They currently own two stations in Dallas and two in Philadelphia.

If this were to happen, then Mediaco (formerly Emmis) would only own one station in NY: WEPN, which it LMAs to Good Karma.
MediaCo doesn’t own WEPN-FM. Emmis still does.
Good Karma does own WEPN(AM).

I think you missed the irony in that the original source was me...

When I post a rumor, just like most similarly credible sports reporters, it comes from substantial sources. Just because it hasn't been announced yet doesn't mean there's not enough talk about it in circles who know what is coming.

Nobody "wants this leaked". In fact I've already heard from people who are pissed at me that it did. My job as a reporter is to track down credible leads and this is one (as @DavidEduardo has also heard) has been discussed for awhile. I simply used it yesterday as bait to get people to follow my brand on a new platform, but that doesn't mean its any less credible.
No need to explain to me my friend. I’m currently a tv sports director/reporter in my market. I know all about sources getting pissed off. Got to do what you’ve got to do!

Why expand when they already have no debt?

You started this thread asking why no one is talking about something you saw on threads. I was asking about credibility.
Do you use Twitter? You’ll see rumors (usually sports) posted ahead of potential trades and signings, etc. all the time. Seems pretty credible to me, he posts on this site all the time. If it’s wrong, so be it. How many times have our local meteorologist called for rain when it’s sunny?

It depends. Also a lot of misinformation. The difference between social media and places like this is you have people like Lance or Fybush who correct the misinformation. That doesn't always happen in social media. Some may not like getting corrected, but I like it.

Agreed! The worst thing Elon did was changing the verification requirements to where people can buy it monthly. but on the flip side, I do understand twitter has been operating at a loss for years. Threads is the first real serious threat Twitter has had

There might be some tax incentives to expand. My tax knowledge is almost 20 years old (so, this could've changed or I might not remember it exactly), but I seem to remember, at least in some cases, that you could avoid or reduce capital gains taxes if you spend your gains on other capital assets within a certain timeframe.

I don’t know about you, but, if I had the choice of paying capital gains taxes on almost $150 million or buying more properties that could make me additional money, I'd probably opt for the second. Even at the preferable capital gains tax rates, you'd be sending tens of millions to the government. Why send the government the full amount when you could be making that money back through other ventures?

Told this before but......Decades ago, everybody was happily toiling away at the station I was at. Until I got stopped at a mall by some lady asking what I would like to hear in/on/at a radio station and so on and so forth. Curiosity peaked, I asked who they were working for and what station was she talking about. She said "Well, I'm not supposed to say but it's.......and it's been sold to [Barnstable, I think was the company] . I blurted out "What the hell! I work there!" The look on her face and the results of "Cleanup in the food court area, bring a gas mask and a lot of bleach" managed to convey her "I'm screwed!" and immediately ran back to the station and spilled the beans that we were being sold and all hell broke loose. The owners finally fessed up, yes we are selling the station., the ratings suck and we're tired of it all. "Happy, happy, joy joy" all of a sudden became "you sons of bitches". I get called in and asked "How'd you find out we were being sold?" Didn't tell them who, wasn't going to throw the poor lady under the bus. I was let go right away, the rest of the DJs followed within a week after they decided to play whatever they wanted, screw the format. Couple days later it was in the paper but the public's reaction was basically a "meh". And I have the feeling, that'll be the reaction from the public today about any station.

Maybe. The difference here is these are stations aimed at minorities. Back when Inner City owned WBLS, the place was an institution. When Inner City was sold, preserving the heritage was a big deal and Al Sharpton got involved. Then they brought in Magic Johnson, and it was OK. I think if they sell WBLS to Urban One, that'll be fine. SBS buying Hot will be "meh."
